If s shirts are bought for d dollars, the rate is s shirts/d dollars. If we multiple this by t dollars, this crosses out the dollars on top and bottom and we're left with just shirts as the unit.

To do this, we simply compute s/d*t or Choice B (which is the slightly rearranged ts/d).

How many shirts we can buy in one dollar = s/d.
Then for t dollars we can buy t* s/d = ts/d.
Hence answer is B.

For d dollars - S shirts
For 1 dollar - S/d shirts
For t dollars - St/d shirts

Option B.

Answer = B) ts/d

Cost of 1 shirt \(= \frac{d}{s}\)

Shirts purchased in t dollars \(= \frac{t}{(\frac{d}{s})} = \frac{ts}{d}\)

Let s shirts = 2
Let d dollars = 4
Let t dollars = 6

If 2 shirts can be purchased for 4 dollars, each shirt costs 2 dollars. For 6 dollars, you get 3 shirts. Plug in 2, 4, and 6 for each variable into the answer choices. The one that yields 3 is correct.

Eliminate A, D, and E quickly. A is much too big. D and E are fractions (quick peek at denominators tells you that).

Down to Answers B and C.

Answer B: ts/d = 12/4 = 3. Correct.

Answer C: td/s = 24/2 = 12. Incorrect.

Answer B.
