If x and y are reciprocals, what is the value of x + y rounded to the nearest hundredth?

(1) x = 0.2
(2) y = 5

We are given that x and y are reciprocals and we need to determine the value of x + y rounded to the nearest hundredth.

Statement One Alone:

x = 0.2

Since x = 0.2 and y = 1/x, then y = 1/0.2 = 5. Thus x + y = 0.2 + 5 = 5.2. Statement one alone is sufficient to answer the question.

Statement Two Alone:

y = 5

Since y = 5 and x = 1/y, x = 1/5 = 0.2. Thus x + y = 0.2 + 5 = 5.2. Statement two alone is also sufficient to answer the question.
