Hi Oda,

From a statistical-standpoint, the type of improvement that you are looking for would likely require that you study for another 1.5 - 2 months. Raising a 470 to a 550 in just 3 weeks is possible, but you will have to make some significant changes to how you work through the Quant section. Thankfully, the GMAT is a consistent, predictable Exam, so you CAN train to score at a higher level.

With a Score Goal of 550+, you do NOT need to correctly answer ANY questions on the GMAT that you think are too hard or too weird, but you do have to keep the little mistakes to a minimum. As such, you should look to quickly 'dump' any questions that you think are too difficult - then you will have more time to spend on all of the other 'gettable' questions. Before I can offer you any additional advice for your studies, it would help if you could provide a bit more information on how you've been studying and your goals:

1) How long have you studied? How many hours do you typically study each week?
2) What study materials have you used so far?
3) On what dates did you take EACH of your CATs/mocks and how did you score on EACH (including the Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores for EACH)?
4) What application deadlines are you currently facing?

GMAT assassins aren't born, they're made,
Rich

Shortcuts and tricks? Please build your fundamentals in Quant and be free.
GMAT tests concepts like no other.
Tricks ,tips etc. are all secondary stuffs

Hello,

I recently took my first GMAT, and scored a low score of 470, while i only need 550. (Q27 V27)
I notice that I struggle with quant since I am not familiar with shortcuts and tricks I can apply.
That is why I applied for a quantitative gmat course (previously I prepared by myself).
The course will consist of 5x 4 hours quant with a small group of people. I am pretty confident that this will help improve my score significantly.
My question is; is it even attainable to improve by 80 points in 3 weeks?
Any tips are very welcome!

Cheers,
Oda

Hi Oda,

While it’s certainly possible to make a significant improvement in your quant score, making such a leap in just 3 weeks is going to be challenging. Is there any way you could study longer and take your GMAT at a later date? Also, if you’d like some general advice on how to improve your quant skills, feel free to reach back out.

Good luck!

Hi all,

Thank you for your support and replies, that gives me more confidence.
Indeed I plan to work next to my course on verbal as well.
I think the mistake I made last time was that I worked too much (job next to gmat) and spend too little time studying productively.
I will build on my basic math skills and the course will help me with strategies etc.

550 has to be possible!
Cheers

Hi everone,

Just an update here, I just scored 530 on my practice exam!
I did not expect that at all, since i lost focus very often during the exam (especially during verbal).
My quant score improved from a 27 to a 36!
I will retake the gmat on the 6th of January. Any tips for those last 20 or more points?

Kind regards,
Oda
