V45 is 99th percentile.
If you were very strong in verbal and other tests or in your background, and you just need to refresh a little bit, it is possible but for most of us, the 45 would be impractical. Simply because you have to cover such a width and breath of material and nuance that it won’t be enough time, it’s not that it’s not enough time, it’s that you also have to remember and apply what you have learned.

We have had a handful of people score V 45 but it’s pretty rare, many of them were verbal experts or former Law students

Thanks bb . Would you say getting to a Q50/51 and a V42 would be easier/ achievable in that time period? I have 5 wrong answers for Q in my last mock, and I'm trying to use error logs to figure out what I'm lacking in quant.

I would suggest to pursue the area of improvement that would be the easiest for you. If you are a verbal person and half prepared to take an LSAT in the past, then go for verbal. If you are more of a Quant person, then go for quiet. Usually, you can go for both and perhaps get to V 42 which in combination with Q 50 would give you 760.

If you just recently started preparing, most people usually lack some basics because they forgot certain rules of principles such as how to find a part of a group or calculate probability or something like that. It’s the trick of the game to find what it is that you forgot or perhaps never studied.

I'm a non- native English speaker and come from an engineering background, so I'd call myself as more of a quant person. I appreciate your advice! I'll brush up on the basics for quant and improving with verbal. Thank you!

Try to work on your solving approach. Might boost your score a bit. Had a student, for example, recently go from a V41 to a V45 (760) in about 10 days. If you can find someone who is really good at Verbal, perhaps ask them to run you through how they tackle questions. You can teach them Quant in return.

How to get a V40 or higher on the GMAT? What about a V51?

Thanks for the advice! I'm on the hunt for study partners as we speak.

No worries. Here's another person I helped who ended up with a final score (760) that had a V44. Hopefully, some helpful insight you can take. All the best.

Thanks ScottTargetTestPrep ! The article was very informative. After reading it I feel like I must speed-run basic concepts of verbal, because the 'brute-force' method I use does not revolve around specific concepts, and I can only get so far without learning further. I appreciate you sharing this.

Hi KalaAzar,

Your individual score break-up indicates that you have a solid command over Quant. However, there is still room for improvement in Verbal.

Your Verbal score suggests that you are good enough with two of the three modules (SC, CR and RC) and need to work on the other one. You should consider identifying the weaker module, analyse your setbacks and turn them into your strengths.

Let me tell you that the improvement to V40+ is all about identifying the core pain points not only from a conceptual standpoint but also from a methodical standpoint. Let me elaborate.

You're probably doing decently well on the easy and medium questions but when it comes to hard questions the issues start surfacing. What it means is that the methods that you might be using are not efficient. There is a need to improve the methodology and focus on logic. Using the right methodologies and strategies to approach the Verbal questions should ideally help you to avoid the traps set by the test makers. If you do so, it is possible to improve your score to V40+ and push your overall score as well.

The right methods for SC is meaning based approach (not splits), CR is framework driven pre-thinking and RC is involving yourself in understand why the various parts of the passage is written and not just what is written.

In short, if you work slowly on your approach and focus on learning from each question you should see a significant improvement in your score.

If you are struggling with some specific topics, you may share the same for better understanding and I can help you out with your worries.

You can get some tips from Girija's journey who raised her verbal score from V38 to V44 (98th percentile) and scored a 750:

Hope this helped and feel free to contact if you have any further queries.
