Your profile is great if you are looking to get into ISB. The B-school has a few parameters where the right research will help you gain a bit of insight for the admission process. The students are placed on the basis of their merit and performance in the interviews. You can have a bit more insight here too! ISB Good Luck with the process

Hey Experts,
Hope you all are doing great. I want to get into ISB and would like to know what you guys think of my profile. And also please let me know what should I do to improve it.

Age: 26 yrs.
10th std: 87%
12th std (Specialisation in electronics): 65%
Graduation (Elect. And Telecom) : 6.75 CGPA.
GMAT: 730

I have 4 years of experience working as a Cloud ERP consultant (Oracle Netsuite). I don’t have any international travelling experience but have experience working with US/Canada based clients.

Extracurricular:
1. Lead a team in a National level competition. Where we had to build a Solar Car from the scratch and won various awards in that event. (During 3rd year of my engineering)

2. Almost a National level football player. But couldn’t make it due to some reasons. ;(

3. District level cricket player as well.

Open to all kind of feedbacks and suggestions.

Thank you.

Hello Hyp3r10n

Past scores are decent, so is the GMAT.
IT background and lack of extracurricular will take some hit on diversity but can be compensated if you present your work ex, career progression and achievements/impact well in the application.
While the career goals are organic, the school will be interested to know why PGP/MBA if you already are in consulting (though it should not be a difficult question to answer, but make sure you touch upon this in the application)

You may want to read here on what factors work in a profile and here to add to your research on career goals.

Hi Experts,

I was hoping to receive a quick profile evaluation for ISB :

GMAT: (730 , Q50/V40 , IR - 7 , AWA - waiting on official score report)

Academics :
B.tech in Computer Science, NIT Calicut / Kozhikode - CGPA 7.68/10
10th - 94% (CBSE) , 12th - 92.2% (CBSE)

Work Experience 7 years to-date:
Consulting at a T2 firm (ZS Associates) - 3.5 years. 3 short stints in the US / international exposure, recipient of multiple awards and recognitions, involved in high impact projects.
Analytics / Business Intelligence in the financial services industry (Wolters Kluwer GRC division) - 3.5 years. 1 short stint in the US / international exposure, multiple awards + involved in high impact projects (including ones that were confidential at the time)

Extra-Curricular:
While a few minor items come to mind, I think there is nothing that stands out or is recent

Post MBA industry: Want to get back into consulting, specifically T1/MBB (interested in strategy consulting primarily)

Hello v1king

Past scores are decent, so is the GMAT.
CFA will add diversity and help you stand out.
Extracurriculars seem dated and may not add much weight to the application unless the achievements are stellar.
Work ex- while the brand on the CV is good and the role is interesting, the lower years of work ex will demand you to showcase above average impact and and accomplishments as you will be competing with candidates with more time in the industry.
Career goals are missing and are essential to know your vision and fit with PGP especially after sell side in JP Morgan. Without this the application and profile evaluation is incomplete.

You may want to read here on what factors work in a profile and here to add to your research on career goals.

Hello ShreyG

The past scores are strong and target a GMT that matches the past scores (a 720+).
The work ex is on the lower side and it is difficult to assess the career progress and achievements based on the info provided. You will need to portray Above avg achievements in order to compete with people will higher work ex (and likely more achievements to talk about).
Extracurricular list is impressive and perhaps too long. You might end up confusing yourself and the school if you don't focus on just a couple of the strongest activities that are also somehow relevant to the b school application and your post MBA goals.
Which brings us to the last and most important piece of the admissions puzzle- career goals. What do you wish to do post PGP and why is now the right time to pursue an MBA (just 1 year in the industry).

You may want to read here on what factors work in a profile and here to add to your research on career goals.

Hello Tsomoriri

Academically you are in an above avg space if you get your target scores, as the past scores are avg.
Work ex is where there are many questions- what do you mean 'unofficially'? do you have any other work ex that you can showcase? Without work ex ISB is not going to happen.
Extracurricular activities do not seem strong enough to add much weight unless you have some stellar achievements in these to talk about.
Career goals are also not clear nor organic (firstly why IT or Finance- these are two very different fields and do not seem to tie with your past education or experience).
Some more work and research is needed on all the above areas before taking the step towards application.

You may want to read here on what factors work in a profile and here to add to your research on career goals.

Hello BhaveshNaidu

Past scores and GMAT check the box.
Work ex wise, more details around career progress in these 4 years and achievements are needed to assess the strength.
Extracurricular seem interesting- key will be how will you make them seem relevant to present and the b school application.
An important piece of the admissions puzzle- career goals is missing and is needed for a complete evaluation.

Hi Pumsidhu,

Thanks for sharing your profile.

Your profile is excellent! Good GMAT score plus good extra curricular make it very attractive.

Govt sector work is highly appreciated in Indian B schools. Last year also, candidates from Govt of Punjab qualified for ISB with much lower GMAT scores than yours. So dont worry, if anything, govt background will aid in your admissions.

Go ahead and apply, you will be one of the strong applicants.

Hope it helped.

Hello Hyp3r10n,

Frankly, you have everything working for you barring the lack of extra-curricular activities. However, it only make sense that you focus on the controllable and put forth a set of compelling essays that adequately represent your skills, achievements, and why you need the PGP. Focus on the international exposure, indirect leadership experience (if any), and the impact generated through the projects.

We see you have a strong chance if you are able to put forth a set of strong essays.

Should you feel the need to discuss this in greater detail, please feel free to reach out to us.

All the best!

Hello BhaveshNaidu,

Thanks for writing in.

While your schooling and undergrad scores are not stellar, the 730 on the GMAT looks good. Of course, considering you have a typical background, you will need to work on essays that highlight the differentiating aspects of your profile. The sports experience as well as the fact that you have worked with clients across multiple domains will help.

Your career goals are missing in your query and they form a very important aspect of your profile. Ensure there is strong sync between what you have done and what you wish to do after the PGP.

If you are able to take care of the above, you will have a strong chance of receiving an interview call.

Good luck!

Hello Pumsidhu,

Thanks for writing in.

You have a very good GMAT score and your public sector experience is definitely going to be a value-add.

Your profile stands out and you must definitely apply. Of course, you still need to deliberate upon your career goals; so, do ensure that there is strong sync on that front.

Should you feel the need for a detailed profile evaluation, please feel free to get in touch with us.

All the best!
