Best indicator is the GMAT OG mock tests. Whatever you're scoring there will give you an estimate where you'll end up.

We agree generally with the other two posts. Overall, there's nothing in your profile that disqualifies you outright. Still, if you can bump your GMAT score (assuming you have the time and finances to retake it), that will go a long way in helping your chances.

As for your passions, you need to demonstrate how you have pursued them in more detail and any meaningful results. That will help differentiate your candidacy.

Please reach out for a free consultation if you'd like to discuss your profile and our admissions consulting services.

Hi Rajat,

You can reach out to us over DM for guidance on ISB admission process. We are a group of recent ISB admits helping out others with the same. As for IIMs, unfortunately, I would have to recommend looking for other consultants who specialise in IIMs. We specialise primarily in ISB admissions and offer extremely personalised and one-on-one services.

Happy to hop on a call for a free one-on-one consultation/profile evaluation. Just fill out the form here and we will reach out to you within 24 hours: forms.gle/3ssra9aP5HmXZAzS6

Hi,

Given the age/work-ex being on a relatively higher end than the average at ISB, it is going to be competitive for sure. For the same reason, the target GMAT score that I would recommend is 720+. For the mocks, I would suggest achieving a score of 730-750 in the last few mocks to land a final score of ~720.

Additionally, given the above average score in both school and graduation and a great work experience, profile should not be an issue. What would matter here is how you present the story and make it stand out as an applicant.

For a more detailed profile evaluation for FREE, fill the form here and we will reach out to you within 24 hours: forms.gle/3ssra9aP5HmXZAzS6

Greetings,

I am an ISB Alum, CO15, and have been assisting applicants to get into global business schools since then.

You should target a GMAT score of at least 710+ to make your application strong for ISB. In your application essay, incorporate how this program will help you progress and achieve your goals and how this career path is best suited for you and your future endeavours. Also, mention your leadership roles and responsibilities, and the impact you have caused. Try including extracurricular activities and hobbies you are passionate about apart from work.

Good luck!

Hi experts,

I am Bhaskar from India. I am looking for some advices to build a strong profile.

Target schools: ISB, IIMs, XLRI.

Education:
10th: 84%
12th : 70%
B.Tech : 7.4

GMAT: Not taken.

Work exp: 5.4 years.
Org : TCS
Industry: IT services.
Role : ERP SCM techno-functional consultant.

Brief on work exp. : Currently working as a SCM track lead for a Saudi client (MOH). Responsible to handle a team of 3 Indian and 2 Arabic resources.

I have worked with clients like Honeywell(US), Etihad(UAE), GAZT(SAUDI), MOH(SAUDI) and KACST(SAUDI).

Honeywell: Not so much to talk about, joined as a fresher stayed there for 8 months. (Peoplesoft was kind of dead thus moved to Oracle)

Etihad: Developed a fully customized HR portal for crew members featuring leave, recognition ,snapshot,PIP etc. This portal have 2 inbound integration (SAP and AIMS) and 1 outbound integration.

Presented the application as a ready made custom solution for aviation industry to my company's pre sales and leadership team.

GAZT: handled the on boarding process from a leaving vendor to my org. Automated components and supported the project and whole HOTO process for 3 months.

KACST: placed as a Technical Consultant with 4 years of work exp. SCM track lead and lead a team of 3 people. Developed custom workflows that automated the whole vehicle and housing booking process. Worked on custom solutions to prevent corruption.

Extra curricular:

2012-15: Co-ordinator of college tech fest - EDGE(second biggest in eastern India after IIT KGP).

2016: Head of gaming committee, Cyber Crusade, and led a team of 25+ people. Cyber Crusade was (probably still is) the tournament with largest prize pool in any college gaming event - 10 lacks+. Teams from Mumbai, Hyderabad, Odisha, BHU, Assam and West Bengal participated.

Participated and won 4-5 counter strike tournaments back in 2013-16.
I had a big passion for gaming and wanted to become an eSport player. We did not get a sponsorship as a team so it didn't work out in the end.

After joining corporate,I have not done such activities that I can showcase. I go to gym know about nutrition a bit and read books.

Family business: I am highly involved in my family's manufacturing business for last 2 years. Developed better quality products, quality assurance, adding machinery and going digital helped me to gain 4% profit margin. We employ ~120 workers and have an annual turnover of ~3 cr inr. This business helped me a lot to grow as a person and added new perspective that also helped me in my IT consulting field.

[People have told me that family business experience actually does not count that much. If you can clarify how to use it to my advantage.]

I am targeting consulting as my post MBA industry.

# Am I lacking leadership exp. in my resume? [Asking as I have seen resumes with great leadership focus exp.]

# I have also completed data analytics course and can join a new project in next 3 months. I personally enjoy analytics and I believe it would be a good to have skill set in Consulting too. What's your opinion?

What skills you would suggest me to acquire if I take another year to build a stronger profile to crack ISB and consulting?

TIA

hope this finds you in good health

You should target a high GMAT score (730+) to stay competitive given you belong to the Indian IT male demographic. Despite the IT background, I think you have worked on interesting projects and you will be able to show consistent progression and learning. You have worked with some notable brands even though they were your clients, you can quantify how you added value to each project.

Involvement in the family business can be sometimes difficult to corroborate. I would rather that this experience compliments the corporate experience and does not completely take away the focus from your projects with notable clients at TCS.
Think through the contributions you made to your family business and focus on key success metrics that you led single-handedly. Applicants who have experience in scaling a family business can bring unique perspectives in that they have experienced firsthand, the implications of decision making with specific goals in mind. As the new generation in the family business, you could also argue your case with examples, citing your fresh and unconventional approach to doing business (as opposed to traditional norms followed by your senior family members) as your motivation for pursuing MBA. The experience of working in a family business brings immense learning and challenges that if showcased aptly in your application, would make you a strong contender for a place in the next academic cohort at your target school.

Your ECs are dated but there's not much you can do about it now. Focus on getting a stellar GMAT score and give your best shot on the applications.

Consulting goals, if not deliberated properly can become a reason for rejection. You need to be specific about the type of roles that interest you and plausibly align with your experience. Consulting roles you could consider can be industry-specific such as supply chain or IT consulting roles or management consulting, business strategy, or corporate strategy roles. Think about what you would like to do in the long term, say 10-15 years from now. Then break down your journey to your long-term goals into possible alternative career paths (a plan A and a plan B) that would help you to pick the right set of skills.

Feel free to connect if you need more insights into building your narrative.

Warm regards

Thanks a lot for your in-depth analysis.

I had immense interest in SCM that's why I moved from core HR to SCM module in Oracle erp.
However when I started to explore gen man consulting, I was amazed by the immense possibilities it offers. However I got some insight from my peers/seniors that one need to have 'pedigree' in their resume to crack MBB. As I dont have it, I inclined towards big 4 and accenture strategy. Now it will be a practical approach for me to opt for IT consulting but still I have this strong desire for gen man.

My question is :

1. What chances do you think I have for gen man consulting?

2. Coming from IT industry will it be possible for me to crack into SCM industry (not scm vertical of IT industry)?

Looking forward to your reply.

A GMAT score of 710 or above is considered good enough to make your application strong for ISB. if you can, try taking the GMAT again to improve your scores. Nevertheless, scores aren't everything. I suggest you methodically build your profile and work towards making a well-rounded application Try to focus more on the impacts and outcomes of your projects and activities. Overall, great profile for ISB. As for your GMAT score, think of it in three buckets:

(0) Below 700 - this will handicap you. You would have to have incredible strengths elsewhere to overcome it.
(1) 700 -710 - minimum threshold score. It won't be your strength but it'll be enough to get you a look.
(2) 720+ - you are in the clear. A GMAT can't get you in, per se, but it can keep you out. Scoring a 720 or higher will put you right in the mix. The rest of your profile still needs to sell well.

Hope that helps,

Hello VirenShah,

Thanks for writing in.

Your age is on the higher side, whereas your GMAT is on the lower side.

It would be fruitful to, therefore, work on improving your GMAT score, as well as focus on putting forth a set of essays that aptly demonstrate your need for a second MBA at this point in your career. Needless to say, focusing on your achievements and learnings thus far is going to be extremely crucial as well. Unfortunately, you have not shared details pertaining to the same.

Hope this helps.

Hello jatin093,

Hope this finds you well.

A 710 on the GMAT hovers around the average at ISB; so, while you may absolutely apply with the same, a higher score will definitely help improve your chances.

The short-term goals look fine; however, we hope you have somewhat defined plans pertaining to your entrepreneurial aspirations in the long-term. If not, you might want to re-work your goals showcasing an organic growth of sorts.

Retaking GMAT wouldn't be a bad idea at all, especially because you are scoring much higher in the mocks and also because you have a couple of months in hand before the deadlines come up.

Good luck!

Hi,

1. Academics and GMAT are both within range. In case you plan to retake the GMAT, do take it up, a higher score will definitely add value to the application.
2. You have a niche profile and you are targeting a niche industry - work on communicating the fit and your unique experiences in the application.
3. Don't worry about the IR score. The IR score is not considered by ISB for evaluating applications. (https://www.isb.edu/en/study-isb/post-g ... t/faq.html).
4. If you have an offline GMAT score, you could consider applying to the IIMA PGPX as well.

All the best!
