Hi experts,

I have worked with clients like Honeywell(US), Etihad(UAE), GAZT(SAUDI), MOH(SAUDI) and KACST(SAUDI).
Honeywell: Not so much to talk about, joined as a fresher stayed there for 8 months. (Peoplesoft was kind of dead thus moved to Oracle)
Etihad: Developed a fully customized HR portal for crew members featuring leave, recognition ,snapshot,PIP etc. This portal have 2 inbound integration (SAP and AIMS) and 1 outbound integration.

I had a big passion for gaming and wanted to become an eSport player. We did not get a sponsorship as a team so it didn't work out in the end.
After joining corporate,I have not done such activities that I can showcase. I go to gym know about nutrition a bit and read books.
Family business: I am highly involved in my family's manufacturing business for last 2 years. Developed better quality products, quality assurance, adding machinery and going digital helped me to gain 4% profit margin. We employ ~120 workers and have an annual turnover of ~3 cr inr. This business helped me a lot to grow as a person and added new perspective that also helped me in my IT consulting field.
[People have told me that family business experience actually does not count that much. If you can clarify how to use it to my advantage.]
I am targeting consulting as my post MBA industry.
# Am I lacking leadership exp. in my resume? [Asking as I have seen resumes with great leadership focus exp.]
# I have also completed data analytics course and can join a new project in next 3 months. I personally enjoy analytics and I believe it would be a good to have skill set in Consulting too. What's your opinion?
What skills you would suggest me to acquire if I take another year to build a stronger profile to crack ISB and consulting?
TIA
hope this finds you in good health
You should target a high GMAT score (730+) to stay competitive given you belong to the Indian IT male demographic. Despite the IT background, I think you have worked on interesting projects and you will be able to show consistent progression and learning. You have worked with some notable brands even though they were your clients, you can quantify how you added value to each project.
Involvement in the family business can be sometimes difficult to corroborate. I would rather that this experience compliments the corporate experience and does not completely take away the focus from your projects with notable clients at TCS.
Think through the contributions you made to your family business and focus on key success metrics that you led single-handedly. Applicants who have experience in scaling a family business can bring unique perspectives in that they have experienced firsthand, the implications of decision making with specific goals in mind. As the new generation in the family business, you could also argue your case with examples, citing your fresh and unconventional approach to doing business (as opposed to traditional norms followed by your senior family members) as your motivation for pursuing MBA. The experience of working in a family business brings immense learning and challenges that if showcased aptly in your application, would make you a strong contender for a place in the next academic cohort at your target school.
Your ECs are dated but there's not much you can do about it now. Focus on getting a stellar GMAT score and give your best shot on the applications.
Consulting goals, if not deliberated properly can become a reason for rejection. You need to be specific about the type of roles that interest you and plausibly align with your experience. Consulting roles you could consider can be industry-specific such as supply chain or IT consulting roles or management consulting, business strategy, or corporate strategy roles. Think about what you would like to do in the long term, say 10-15 years from now. Then break down your journey to your long-term goals into possible alternative career paths (a plan A and a plan B) that would help you to pick the right set of skills.
Feel free to connect if you need more insights into building your narrative.
Warm regards
Thanks a lot for your in-depth analysis.
I had immense interest in SCM that's why I moved from core HR to SCM module in Oracle erp.
However when I started to explore gen man consulting, I was amazed by the immense possibilities it offers. However I got some insight from my peers/seniors that one need to have 'pedigree' in their resume to crack MBB. As I dont have it, I inclined towards big 4 and accenture strategy. Now it will be a practical approach for me to opt for IT consulting but still I have this strong desire for gen man.
1. What chances do you think I have for gen man consulting?
2. Coming from IT industry will it be possible for me to crack into SCM industry (not scm vertical of IT industry)?
Looking forward to your reply.
