Hello Kshitij2007

Your profile has many objective and subjective strengths.
Objective- Decent past scores, Unique work experience, Interesting extracurriculars.
Subjective- Diversity (via your work ex and extracurricular- if you present both well in your essays). Another strength I see is how you have portrayed your career progression and key achievements. Very few people articulate it this well. I am confident if you have done it well here, you will do an even better job in your application.
Only thing missing here is any mention of your career goals. The school will evaluate clarity and vision of your career and this is one of the most crucial piece of the admissions puzzle.
P.S.- The GMAT is lower than average. A retake (if possible) with 710+ will make your candidature very strong. However, even a 690 in your specific case is not a deal breaker.

You may want to read here on what factors work in a profile and here to add to your research on career goals.

Hello anmolsb

ISB will evaluate your profile on 4 factors-
1. Academics- past scores are decent, but GMAT is below avg and will not help you stand out. Either retake with a target of 710+ or make sure you have a spike in the 3 factors below.
2. Work ex- Is unique, but other qualitative details are needed to evaluate better. Details around career progression, achievements etc will help understand the strength of the work ex.
3. Diversity- While work ex/industry adds diversity, extracurricular activities are another way to bring diversity. In your case, the activities look dated (most school/university activities do not add much weight unless the achievements are stellar). Not clear whether the CSR activity is recent or during university. Also, details around your contribution/impact here will help evaluate the strength of this activity.
4. Career goals- while your goals seem clear (half the battle) not sure if these are easily achievable via ISB- please make sure your research is well done, else the school will see you as someone lacking research, weak career vision (and an employment risk).

You may want to read here on what factors work in a profile and here to add to your research on career goals.

Hi Kshitij2007,

Thanks for sharing your profile.

The last year, the average GMAT requirement for PSU bank background candidates was much lower than other candidates as per the experiences of our candidates. So, unless you are sure of getting a better GMAT anytime soon, you should not overly worry on that.

Your academics are average but you have done some good work in your tenure at SBI. Your extra curriculars are also good.

Ideally, yes, a better GMAT would have helped. But with a dedicated effort in your application and interview, you can still go through with ISB or some top IIMs.

Best wishes!

Hi Kshitij2007 hope this finds you well

Having a strong leadership narrative that focuses on "your contribution" to making your branch a model in sales and business growth would demonstrate your ability to make a large-scale impact. Your GMAT score is not your strong suit, however, the Q50 could make up for the sub 700 score if you execute your application well. What are your Post PGP goals? You must understand that ISB is particular in that applicants have utmost clarity on post-PGP prospects. Therefore, you should think strategically about how you could connect your current experience with your post-PGP goals. Apply in the early rounds to have better odds.
Feel free to reach out should you need guidance.

Best wishes

Hey, I must say you have a decent good profile.
But as you scored 620 in your mocks, I would advice you to prepare more and try to score more than 710+ for ISB CO’23 as the average GMAT score for the class of 2019 at ISB was 709. The average GMAT score for ISB has been hovering around 710 from the past few years, and hence, I can safely assume that this trend might continue in the near future.

For the mocks, I would suggest achieving a score of 730-750 in the last few mocks to land a final score of 710 or higher.

Speaking of your CPA 8.93, it would definitely work in your favour as it further illustrates your academic capabilities, allowing you to apply to most of the top colleges. While your grades do play an important part, your extracurricular activities and your other endeavours matter as well because AdComs are looking for applicants with holistically developed profiles.

You have a good mix of extracurricular activities. Your involvement in club and committee can be used to demonstrate a well-rounded profile. As a result, the profile should not be an issue. What matters here is how you present your story and make yourself stand out as an applicant.

To know more about your profile, I would strongly suggest you to take up an in-depth profile evaluation once again.

If you would like, we can help you with essays and SOPs and other application processes.

Overall, there are many interesting elements of your background, especially your work experience. Why is it unofficial? Did you not bring in a salary? You will have to explain that or make it more official than it actually is in your application.

Your extracurricular activities could be better. Can you try to get involved in something over the next few months, even if you just help out with an event of some sort?

The GMAT is a big factor here, but the range you are providing is comforting. Try to get as close to that 740 as possible.

Kindly reach out to us for a free consultation if you want to discuss a potential application strategy further:

Hi,

You have strong GMAT which will definitely support your academic profile.
Work experience of 7 years posits you for around 25% of the intake ( Benchmark: It was around 24.52% for 5- 8 years work experience bracket in the class of 2022). Your industry exposure should be a plus.
As you mentioned that your extra curricular activities have been limited, you could consider exploring some options. Though extracurriculars play an important role in demonstrating a well rounded profile, it is not essential that every one gets the time to engage in these while working. It is quite understandable. You can still build a strong application. You have mentioned achievements at work which could add value.

All the best!

Hello Hyp3r10n

You are likely to earn maximum weightage for your outstanding academic pedigree, %, solid work experience and GMAT. The short-term plan post PGP is certainly achievable. However, we would need more discussion about your extracurricular interests and hobby, which need to be looked into.

Regards

Hi Hyp3r10n hope this finds you in good health

You have a good academic background. ISB sees a lot of pre-MBA consultants applying to the program and ZS is a big feeder of this trend along with MBB and tier 2/boutique consulting firms. So your competition will be fierce from within this cohort and you will have to execute your application well to stand out. Your professional recommendations will also need to be exemplary. You need to unpack your experiences and reconstruct your stories in a way that shows that working on high-impact projects has given you a much more hands-on experience and opportunity to engage with leaders from the industry, more experiential maturity, and more capability to contextualize business problems than most MNC employees or consultants. The international experience is definitely a plus.
T1/MBB consulting goals are too generic and you may seem short-sighted. Show more deliberation on what you would want to do in the long term and why, and what possible career tracks in the short/mid-term can help you gain the right type of experience that you need to achieve your long-term vision. Think of a plan B in addition to plan A (consulting in your case), and also present the thought process behind your motivation.

Reach out should you need guidance
Best wishes

Hi Tsomoriri
Your academic arc with a low GPA and your family business experience (if you are unable to corroborate your impact and contribution) are not your strong suits. In addition to that, your goals plan would need more deliberation. I suggest that you consider taking up professional opportunities for the next 1-2 years that help build up your profile. If you eventually wish to get into PM in the mid term/long term, consider applying to entry level roles in PM analytics or PM ops to align your aspirations with your pre MBA experience.

Best wishes
