 Dr. B. participates in a team building activity at MBA orientation for UNC Kenan-Flagler’s Class of 2015 We don’t mean to brag, but our professors are pretty cool. Sridhar Balasubramanian – also known as “Dr. B.” – is associate dean of the MBA Program, the Roy & Alice H. Richards Bicentennial Distinguished Scholar and professor of marketing at UNC Kenan-Flagler. Named one of the top 50 business school professors in the world by Poets & Quants, Dr. B is a widely published and cited researcher and award-winning teacher dedicated to making the UNC Kenan-Flagler experience the best it can be for students. Get to know the person behind the professor with these fun facts shared by Dr. B. 10 things you don’t know about Dr. B. 10) I have stayed at school beyond 10 p.m., meeting with students who drop by with questions about the case due the next day. Sometimes we’ll end up sitting in a big circle on the floor outside of my office having an impromptu roundtable. I’m back at school by 8 a.m. the next day! 9) I speak five languages: English, Hindi, Tamil, French and Konkani. 8) My second cousin, Vishy Anand, is the former world chess champion. I played him once many years ago and he beat me in just a few moves. At some point he said I was just “lost” and I did not argue with him further. 7) I’ve always wanted to be a professor. I truly enjoy doing research and it is a privilege to help shape young minds. 6) I have taught on every continent except Antarctica and Australia. 5) I grew up in Goa, the only part of India that was ruled by the Portuguese, and first came to the United States in 1992 to get my PhD at Yale. 4) When my wife Lakshmi and I were married there was an elephant at the ceremonies. 3) When I’m not at work, you can find me taking our kids to tae kwon do and ballet or hiking in state parks. Our son, Karthik, is 15 years old and our daughter, Meenakshi, is 13 (we call her Meenu). 2) One of the joys of my day is when I arrive home and Meenu greets me at the door with a big hug after a long day’s work, saying “Welcome home, Dr. B!” 1) I love UNC Kenan-Flagler because there is a wonderful, close-knit community and a great sense of belonging within the School and the University. My colleagues are great collaborators and partners. Our faculty, students and staff make up a great multicultural community rooted in the fine traditions of North Carolina: hospitality, kindness, grace and Southern charm. We truly live our core values of excellence, leadership, integrity, community and teamwork.

Well,
After speaking with over 20 alums of all schools, my conclusion is:
1. I did not got in to H/W/S.
2. I also did not got in to Wharton Or Kelogg.
3. I got in to Tuck, Duke , and Kenan Flagler - They are pretty similar.
4. Speaking with alumni who recruit for their tech companies - they say that if it's not a target school (eg. Berkeley/Stanford/MIT) , they don't care which school you went to , as long as it's top 20.
4. Tuck has higher avg. salary - but only 58% of their international students work in the US. that's not a good sign for someone that want to work in the US after the MBA.
5. Duke students say most companies that recruit on campus also go to UNC. (15 min drive)
6. KF is a great program , and small. Tuck is also great and small. Duke is medium (400 students). I want small.
7. Tuck is buried in the snow from Dec-March. I'm not sure if I like snow or not for so long.
8. KF offered full tuition fellowship, that's 110K. and living costs are very low. so that's seals the deal.
Hey, sound reasoning. However I would like to share my thoughts.
Disclaimer: I love both KF and Tuck. I was dinged by Tuck, BTW.
1. The alumni network of Tuck is next to none. When I visited the school, I see CEOs of big firm visit the school and talk to the current students as if they were a family.
2. You will almost always get an interview through a Tuck alum instead of recruiters coming to you. It's special how Tucikes help each other.
3. Tuckies live in tunnels. The buried in the snow is what makes it such an intimate network.
4. I think you should put the money aside a bit and see where do you belong more. Having said that, KF and Tuck are both great. You must be a rockstar to get into both. All the best.
5. Even if you think in terms of money, lot of Tuckies get their loans paid by their employers once they graduate.

First thanks for the kind words! I'm sorry about the ding. I was also dinged by Tuck last year (and by duke) and was admitted this year. If you want it - don't give up.
The truth is I agree with everything you mentioned. I had a great visit to Tuck and I love it there. I could imagine my self indoors for the winter making strong connections.
BUT, speaking with Tuck international alumni, something really problematic came up. I don't know of it's true or it's a small sample opinion. the consensus I felt was:
1. There is a constant distance between the US and international students at Tuck. they don't socialize often, and pretty much closed to each other. that is not uncommon in US schools but sounds really evident at Tuck. (lot's of separate parties)
2. That distance causes the 'Tuckies' that help each other thing, AKA the network to be far less effective for international students.
3. I think (but was unable to verify) there is a problem with international students and US jobs at Tuck. I don't know why, maybe it's lack of US recruiters of INTL students, or abundance of international recruiters coming to Tuck, but finding a job in the US may be just as hard coming from UNC or Tuck.
Still, while both are great programs, I agree Tuck is better. in my opinion , not enough to put the money issue aside.

As far as online postings...no, the online portal will not update for anyone until Feb 3. I got this straight from adcom, so I won't know any more details about my fellowship until then either.
