Largemouth bass are usually found living in shallow waters near the lake banks wherever minnows are found. There are no largemouth bass living on this side of the lake.
Which of the following would logically complete an argument with the preceding premises given?
A. Therefore, there are no minnows on this side of the lake.
B. Therefore, there are probably no minnows on this side of the lake.
C. Therefore, there will never be any minnows on this side of the lake.
D. Therefore, largemouth bass are not found in the shallow water of rivers unless minnows are also present.
E. Therefore, lakes that contain minnows are the only habitat where largemouth bass are found.
This is a classic case of cause (shallow waters and minnows) and effect (Largemouth Bass) relationship in which some of the options are trying to present effect (Largemouth Bass) as the cause and cause (shallow water and minnows) as the effect. The presence of word "usually" in the stimulus ensures that it is not an extreme case in which effect is totally dependent on cause.
The presence of Minnows is not dependent on the presence of Largemouth Bass so strike out option A, and C.
Option D and E are extreme cases so strike out both.
B is the only option which one can draw logically from the stimulus.
