Okay we've seen some very peculiar McCombs admission results as of late and I'd like to speculate on what this spells for waitlist candidates.
First, R3 had very low admit numbers reported on Clearadmit and GMATClub, with a high amount of R3 waitlists; second, we have already started to see some waitlist rejections trickle through; third, we have had ZERO waitlist admits as of May 14th which is after the major milestones of R2 deposit deadline and R3 decision deadline and later than the past 2 years.
I think this points to either of the following two extreme scenarios:
1. Yields are very low this season in R1/R2, adcoms rejected a few waitlist admits because they are gearing up to admit a very high percentage of the waitlist in a single batch, similar to how they announce R1-R3 admission results in a single day.
2. Yields were very high and they have already filled out their target class in R1/R2. They have the luxury of being able to wait later into the summer to ensure none of their R1/R2 admits deflect to another school. They intend to admit a very low percentage of the waitlist, and will pull off the waitlist only to fill very specific demographics in order to round out their class.
Let's hear everyone else's theories...
