650 is a decent score and you were able to top all your mock scores. This shows that if you concentrate fully on the test day, you can perform better that what you have performed in the past.

However, you could have attained a higher score if you would have completed both the sections.
There is a high penalty for not completing a section and this penalty would have hurt your score.

In your next round of preparation and make sure that this time around you take the mock CATs by replicating the exam conditions. Take the with the AWA and the IR.

All the best!

Thanks Janielle, Taking entire mock test with concentration was my weak point throughout. I will try to simulate the conditions this time.

HI vikrantbhusari1,

First off, a 650 is a strong score (it's right around the 80th percentile overall), so it could be enough to get you into your first-choice School. As such, a retest might not be necessary. When you mentioned not answering JUST the last question in each section, the penalty would have been little-to-none. If you bubbled an answer (any answer) before time expired, then you were credited with answering the question, so you would have avoided the penalty. Even if you didn't physically bubble any of the circles, then it's likely that your score would not have decreased by more than 10 points. This is meant to say that the missing points that you're looking for are NOT going to found on the last question in each section.

Based on everything that you've described, I have a few questions:

1) Since you barely scored higher than 600 during your practice (and only on 2 of your CATs), and your score goal is 700+, then why did you take the GMAT now (rather than push back your Test Date)?

2) How long did you study?
3) What materials did you use?
4) When are you planning to apply to Business School?

Thanks for the scrutiny Rich. To answer your questions.
1. I did reschedule the exam once by 2 months but was hesitant to do it again due to the associated charges. Also, I was doing OK when attempting the sections individually. Quant 42-46 and Verbal 32-37. But during the mock test I used to get distracted and run out of juice, especially because IR/AW used to drain me out.
2. I started studying somewhat seriously from mid December, so close to 2-2.5 months of preparation. 1-1.5 hours a day and 3-4 hrs on weekends with long gap of 2-3 days in between sometimes :(
3. I used OG, OG review 2nd edition and ManhattanPrep books. Planning to use the same again for the next attempt.
4. I am planning to start applying from May 16 onwards, targeting the Mid 2017 exec MBA programs. So I still have 2-2.5 months for the next attempt.
I hope to prepare well and score a bit more in both the sections this time.

Regards

Hi vikrantbhusari1,

If you're going to continue to study for another couple of months, then you're likely going to need some new practice materials to work with (re-doing all of those questions that you've already answered will probably not be enough to raise your score to 700+). Since this is the only time that you've scored at this level, you will also likely need to learn/practice some new Tactics. As you score at higher and higher levels, the GMAT becomes more 'sensitive' to silly/little mistakes, so you also have to put in some extra effort on the 'precision' in your work, so that you can eliminate the little mistakes from how you process GMAT questions.

Hello All,

I am extremely happy to announce that I scored 700 in my todays GMAT attempt. Thats a 50 points jump from last attempt. I was consistently scoring 620-640 in mocks this time. I have to admit there was a lot of luck involved, but my performance under real test conditions has been far better as well.

Thanks to all the GMATclub members. I wont take gmat again.Happy and content with 700.

Thanks again for your help.

Great to hear that. Congratulations to you. Can you share a little more about your experiences? Was the actual exam easier/tougher than the mock tests? Were the questions in the actual exam almost similar to the ones in mocks or they were remarkably different? Also, what's ur Verbal and Quant score? Lot of questions lol

Hi There

I was consistently scoring 44-48 in mock gmat tests in Quant and 30-35 in verbal and by the time I reach verbal section my energy was zero.
I bought last GMAT's ESR and analysed GMATprep results for last 5-6 tests to find that I was scoring very low in RC (20-25%). All the other sections were above average.
So in the last few weeks I focussed on verbal only especially on RC. This time I followed the approach to conserve energy for verbal, at the expense of few points in quant and IR/AW.

The actual gmat test is more or less same as GMATprep, so I recommend folks to buy the extra exams and questions.

My advice to folks would be to constantly find the weak sections and subsections and work on them to get maximum ROI. GMATprep extra tests are the closest mock tests we can get. Almost all the answers are present on GMATclub. I really want to thank gmatclub for the awesome job of giving us all the resources at the fingertips.
