Need dire help

Question

Hi! Thanks for looking into my post! I really need great advice. I took GMAT last week and got 460 (Q:42 and V: 13 and IR:3). And i have taken TOEFL today. i got this score after rigorous 2.5 months hard work and risking my job side wise.

It is not possible for me to take Gmat again. I really need admission in 2018 January intake in US. However, i have strong profile: CGPA: 8.25 ECE Engg. from reputed college in India Work Ex: 4.5 in Capital market IT firm Designation: Consultant and Team lead Even worked onshore in one of the top 100 investment bank in Europe for 3 months each in last two successive years. Hobby of painting, writing poems and beauty & fashion blogs. I am interested in normal MBA program like general management, HR or luxury management. Please suggest me possible colleges, any other MBA program and procedure? I really need assistance.

Thanks for your post and I am sorry you didn't do well on the GMAT. It will honestly be really tough to get in with that score. There are programs that don't require the GMAT though and those would be the ones to target, though it does limit you quite a bit. Email your resume if you would like further analysis. Sorry to hear of your disappointing score. Even though the rest of your profile sounds solid, I'm afraid that yes you will probably need to just focus on programs that have a GMAT waiver. That said I don't have a lot of confidence in those programs turning out a good return on investment. One that comes to mind is the online program for Syracuse.

I really don't think it would be a very good idea for you to move forward at this point. You just don't really have enough ammo, also important to consider that really there are very few schools that have January intake in the US. That's really something that happens more in the EU. Is it an option to take the GRE? I've had clients who have maxed out their attempts at GMAT and then take the GRE and that has allowed them to move forward with plans.

I am assuming that you are looking for a full-time regular MBA. If you have any interest and doing an Executive MBA, then that changes the situation considerably, given that many top schools waive the GMAT for Emba.

Could you please suggest me courses that i can opt in which US universities?
if my profile is strong, will university not ignore my GMAT score?
i am really very hard working. but my brain stops working in verbal section of GMAT under time constraint, however i did well in quant section because of my engineering background.
can i look forward for universities like pace university, Rochester institute of technology, Hult?
Will this be helpful in building my career?
Or can i look for courses like luxury management , i really love fashion?

Hi Andysingh,

With that score, it’s very unlikely for you to get admission in a school worth mentioning. When you say you can’t write GMAT again, you’re probably saying you can’t squeeze out time for it. If you can’t retake the test – GMAT or GRE – then you should reconsider your decision to enroll in an MBA program because your humongous investment of time and money may not yield much. You may also consider Canadian schools if you get close to 650. (And it’s not that hard. You’ll find many on GMAT forums who get 750+ despite heavy pressure at work.)

Your overall profile seems to be strong. If you have studied well and have a competitive job, I'd urge you to maintain that record- by going to a competitive MBA program. Retaking GMAT is a small inconvenience as compared to the time, effort and money you will be putting into an MBA program. Moreover, you mention that you are hard working. So put that effort into another GMAT or GRE and try to create the best opportunities for yourself.

If the GMAT verbal section is challenging, get professional help. Alternately, try GRE which tests the verbal section differently
