Hey Need a perspective on this Work Ex - 3 years 1 year ICICI Bank 1.5 years Credit Suisse 6 months at Goldman Sachs Currently an Associate at Goldman Sachs I have a GMAT score of 710 - Giving GMAT once again on 9th Dec to improve my score. should I apply in R3 for NYU Stern or wait 1 year and apply next year?
Hi! Thank you for sharing a bit about your stats. Stern truly looks at admissions in a holistic way. I’d start here with the class profile to get a sense for average GMAT, years of experience, average age, etc: https://www.stern.nyu.edu/programs-admi ... ss-profile . Having said that, please note that these are reflective of averages and we’d encourage you to apply when you feel most ready.

Hello Maya and Alexandra! Thank you both so much for taking the time to speak with us this morning. When you have a chance, I am quite curious how you each find the culture of Stern (in the classroom or beyond, between peers and professors, industry pipelines, or anything else that’s made an impression on you). Thank you!

I scored 325 in GRE with work ex of 3 years. My CGPA was 7.77. I have a pretty good co-curricular profile (national level sportsman, 7 years with an NGO ). I want to know my chances
Hi, Maya from Stern here - Stern admits students with a range of scores, GPAs, and profiles, there’s no one specific background that Admissions looks for! I’d encourage you to look at the class profile here if you want to see more of people’s backgrounds for the 2Y full time MBA: https://www.stern.nyu.edu/programs-admi ... ss-profile

Hi Alexandra, thank you for the great opportunity!

Based on your experience, what do you think is the most important characteristic of successful Sternies during and beyond their time at Stern?

My questions are:

Can you please share about your student club experience at NYU? Thanks :)
Hi, Maya from Stern here - I’ve been involved in a range of clubs with at Stern, like the Stern Women in Business Club, Graduate Marketing Club, and others! You can be a general member of any club, but if you’d like to be on the executive board that’s also an option. There’s a wide range of clubs from professional to affinity to special interest and I love that you can attend any of their events and have a range of involvement

Has NYU admitted international students(read ’Indian’) with 10 years work ex?
Hi! We don’t have a maximum (or minimum!) work experience for any students and often admit a wide range. You can take a look at the class profile for more details on this: https://www.stern.nyu.edu/programs-admi ... ss-profile. Our classes at Stern also represent many countries and nationalities - last year’s class had 46 countries represented!

What would be a good workex in years to apply for nyu ster
Hi! I’d recommend checking out the class profile to see average amount of work experience: https://www.stern.nyu.edu/programs-admi ... ss-profile. Our average amount of work experience last year was 5.2 years but the range spanned from 0 to 14 years of experience.

Is it advisable for an international student to apply in R4?
Hi BittuDG92, Stern admits international students in all rounds so there’s no one best round to apply in. I’d say apply when you feel your application is most ready!

Is it important to have a leadership position or work in a large company to have a better shot for admission? If we don’t, how can we strengthen our profile?

Thank you so much for your reply. One more question related to this - is there any chance of getting a scholarship in R4?

Do Stern alumni pursue a career in ops or analytics? Does MBA have STEM specific component in it?
Yes, Stern graduates pursue a range of career paths including ops and analytics-related careers! You can find more in depth info in our employment report here: https://www.stern.nyu.edu/sites/default ... 022-23.pdf. Also yes the 2Y MBA and Tech MBA are STEM designated degree programs

Hi and welcome the Stern gang! Would be awesome if you could post a quick intro about yourself so we can identify you and know a bit more (are you a first year, second year, etc). This will get quite busy in a few moments 😇
Hi bb! For a quick intro I’m Maya a second year at Stern from Chicago. You can find a quick bio here on our Graduate Ambassador page! https://www.stern.nyu.edu/programs-admi ... ct-sternie

How can we compensate for less work experience with other elements of the application?
Hi! Stern truly looks at applications in a holistic way. In your application you can highlight your undergraduate experience (including extracurriculars and any leadership experience), outside of work hobbies and interests, standardized test scores, career goals and ambitions, and really anything else that makes you who you are!
