This comes to how you perceive short term vs long term benefits. You may choose Yale for its culture but you will graduate with hid debt. You may choose this option if you do not have burdens that you are carrying over from undergraduate stage. It is obvious that you may earn a privilege of debt free after graduation. I personally saw people choose the debt, while others chose debt free life. Both schools will lead you to your goals and in same geographic domain.

Good luck

Have you tried negotiating? Can't hurt...maybe SOM will throw you a bone. That is *a lot* of money to leave on the table if you leave Stern to pay sticker elsewhere. You're in a great spot though! Congrats.

I agree with teleste in asking if scholarship money is available for you given the situation. I am a current student at SOM and was presented with a similar situation where another school was offering me a scholarship and Yale was not. Yale ended up matching my offer which was great! I would have chosen Yale regardless but the money never hurts! If you'd like to discuss further, please let me know! Best of luck in your decision.

Yeah I haven't negotiated, I guess I could try since there's no downside - I just don't see a scenario where they go from zero to full. That's a lot of money. I dunno, even with partial, it seems like a lot of people consider Yale and NYU Stern peers (even if Yale is on the upswing). What's the worst case scenario if I turn down Yale? They establish consistently top 7-10 in the rankings in the next few years? Is that worth giving up the scholarship and living in NYC?

To echo other commenters, I really think you should call SOM and negotiate. Just tell them that NYU gave you a 100% scholarship. They may not match 100%, but even if you get a 25 or 50% scholarship out of negotiating, then that really does change your situation. FWIW, i'm at SOM now and I love it, great atmosphere and really high quality people.
