Dear sinchan090,
Would you please explain what is "Typical Indian Freeloader" ??
As far as my knowledge and information is concerned no one in this forum is a free loader. This a beautiful forum with knowledgeable and genuine users. Nevertheless I would try to answer your queries though they are quite subjective:
As per ISB, the GMAT score of last year's admit ranged from 640 to 780. GMAT is one of the parameter for the adcom. Having a GMAT score of 700, GPA of 7.9, 3 years of Work Ex with international exposure, you stand a fair chance of getting an interview call. Though final decision rests with the adcom :-D
Application Essays for 2017 intake are as mentioned below:

Essay 1:
If we were to admit just one more candidate to the Postgraduate Program (PGP) at the ISB, why should it be you? (400 words max)

Write your story. Your best personal/professional experience that made an impact either to your organization or to the society. Something which made you a better person.

Essay 2:
Describe your short and long term career plans. How does the PGP fit in with those? (300 words max)

Persuade you worthiness to the adcom. Give them the reason why you believe that you are a strong fit for ISB's PGP and vice versa. Mentioned your post MBA aspirations and vision.

Essay 3:
Please use this space to provide any other information not covered elsewhere in the application that could significantly impact your candidature at ISB. Note: It is not necessary for you to write this essay. Please use this space only if there is something really significant that you would like us to know. (200 words max)

You may use this space to highlight your international exposure, your leadership position etc is you have not highlighted the same in your previous essays. And i would suggest you not to attempt this essay if you dont have any substantial points to make.

I hope I have answered your queries. Kindly let me know if you feel you need some more information. At the same time I would like to invite others to share their opinion on this.

Hey Gourav,

Thanks a lot for your suggestions.

My "freeloader" pun was me trying to be unnecessarily funny :P

I visited Manya, Princeton in my locality and they told me similar things. Do you suggest that I take their help with my essays?

Thanks again for your guidance :)

Hi Sinchan,

1. I think its impossible to predict your chances of getting an interview call based on the info given here. You are forgetting the application, which plays a large part in the process. You give a wealth of info about your self in the app. through the essays, the resume, data forms and the reco. So asking others to judge you by these minimal data points is misjudging the entire application process.
Instead, focus upon your strengths and submit a great application. A lot of people who fail to do so despite a great profile get rejected. The reverse is true for people who submit strong applications despite some weaknesses in their profile.

2. These are the areas that you should highlight:
a. Career progression (promotions, increased responsibilities);
b. Impact (your achievements and how they impact the company's bottomline/topline. Quantifiable results are always desired. Your winning several projects is a great achievment)
c. career awareness - understanding of what you have achieved so far, what do you want to do in the future, and why do you require an MBA (the career goals question).
d. Leadership - at work/ in community work.

Hi,

I am a re-applicant. I understand that I have to write my essay from the scratch and everything. But can I use some lines I really liked for this year.

Your suggestion would be appreciated.

Hi,

I understand you are a re applicant to ISB and have questions around how to frame the essay. Below are some pointers from my side based on my experience with ISB Admission Committee and as an ISB Alum.

1. You need to showcase what has changed in your professional and/or personal life in the last one year. Common examples include : promotion, on site assignment, job change,
startup endeavour, enrolment in a new extracurricular activity - voluntary work, freelancing etc.
2. You also need to showcase what influenced you for the change you mentioned above
3. Are your goals the same as last year or have you modified them. If yes, what are the new goals and how do you plan to achieve them.
In a nutshell the admission committee is interested in understanding, what value add will you do to the class that you probably couldn't the previous year.

As far as your question ' can I use some lines I really liked for this year' is concerned, I am not really sure if I understand you clearly. It will be great if you can elaborate on what 'lines' are you referring to.

Happy to help.

Thanks

Doctors applying to ISB are valued by way of their differentiated background. Also, ISB offers plenty of options to help doctors transition to an excellent career in healthcare.

Therefore, if other parameters (overall application, GMAT score) are fine, doctors are really valued as applicants to ISB.

hello everybody!
I am also planning to apply to ISB this year. I am almost done with my essays but am not sure how it has come out. kind of confused whether I should focus on a personal experience or only work related experience or both in the essay 1.

Any idea?

Hi Pulastya,

I am an ISB alum CO14 and wanted to share with you my experience of responding this question during my application or while helping out other candidates answer the same in subsequent years.

The sheer volume of applications making their way to the ad com these days necessitates making your application memorable. The real world is replete with examples of doing just that. What is memorable in our daily life? This is what the admission committee is interested in knowing.

The best way to start the process is through introspection. Dig deep and try to find a theme around which you can weave your ‘personal-brand story’. For e.g. if you have worked as a consultant for big-pharma then it would make more sense to highlight your pharmaceutical expertise then to call yourself out as just another consultant. It helps the reader visualize the applicant’s background and personal brand.

As far as the specific essay question goes, you need to portray a consistent profile of yours in front of the admission committee - you can either portray this through a combination of personal and professional stories OR just your professional OR just personal stories. However, the theme should be a common one and not show you as 'jack of all trades but master of one'.
After reading through the essay, the adcom should be able to summarise your profile (read brand) in a single sentence :

For e.g. A successful personal brand statement could be: “Result oriented, team-driven leader with passion for solving problems who plans to leverage big pharma consulting experience to build a world-class consulting firm.”

P.S The personal branding is more relevant to differentiate yourself in case you want to bridge any gap in your profile (below par GMAT score or undergrad scores or a professional experience which seems on a paper similar to lot of other applicants)

Please feel free to reach out to me at +91-9701215544 in case you have any questions or want to get comments on the essays you have drafted so far.

Thanks

Hi Deeksha,

I am a current student at ISB and we do have doctors in the batch. So don't need to worry on this factor.
If i am right, i can easily recollect close to 6-7 doctors in the Hyderabad campus.

All the best!

Vijay
