After over 2 months of GMAT preparation that included all
MGMAT books,
OG problems and Powerscore CR Bible, I gave my 1st GMAT Prep Test. These were the results - 700 with Q48 (21 correct, 15 incorrect) and V38 (28 correct, 13 incorrect).
Since, I was aiming for a 750 score, I decided to study further and from variety of sources.
I went through free
e-GMAT videos,
MGMAT Advanced Quant, and few notes from GMAT Club.
Thereafter, I gave few more tests and had these results:
MGMAT CAT-1 - 650 (Q42, V37)
Economist Free - 620 (Q50, V27; Weird Score although I had just 3 incorrect in Quant & 7 incorrect in Verbal)
Kaplan Test - 680 (Q48 ,V36)
MGMAT CAT-2 - 670 (Q45, V36)
GMAT Prep-2 - 670 (Q50, V31; 7 incorrect in quant and 11 incorrect in verbal)
I was extremely disheartened when I saw that my score dipped in Prep-2. When I gave my 1st Prep test, I didn't knew time mattered so much and ended up missing a question in Verbal and hence, it seemed certain that I will score higher in the next Prep exam. After giving other tests, I thought my scores were on increasing trend and all that halted with the 2nd Prep test.
On analyzing further, I found out that I had done fewer questions incorrectly in both Q & V in Prep-2 compared to Prep-1.
Incorrect ratio for CR:SC:RC was 6:3:2. Even prior to the exam, I observed that I was doing lot more CR questions incorrectly.
Since, there are not many fixed set of rules in CR, I don't know how to proceed. I have gone through
e-GMAT videos, Ron Purewal's videos and Powerscore Bible. I have practiced all
OG problems and yet, I feel my performance in CR is deteriorating. I am even taking more time on CRs.
Should I pause studying for few days and read other content ? I haven't read any news site/paper/magazines in last month.
I am planning to give GMAT at the end of this month. Is that gap sufficient to improve ?
Also, I am learning SC solely from Ron's videos now. Is that correct (since I am improving on SC segment, it seems to be the right thing at the moment) ?
I am not focussing much on RCs as I am doing well in it. Even, on the prep, I did 2 RC's incorrectly because of less time.
Please analyze these and reply. I have little time remaining and after finishing studying lot of resources, I am lost on what to do next ?
