Hi Yashkumar,

If you have not yet done so, then it would be a good idea to take a FULL-LENGTH practice CAT Test; you can download 2 for free from https://www.mba.com (and they come with some additional practice materials). That score will give us a good sense of your natural strengths and weaknesses and will help provide a basis for comparison as you continue to study. A FULL CAT takes about 4 hours to complete, so make sure that you've set aside enough time to take it in one sitting. Once you have those scores, you should report back here and we can discuss your overall study plan. In addition, you should plan to take your practice CATs at regular intervals (and not wait to take them all at the 'end' of your studies).

I'd like to know a bit more about your timeline and goals:
1) What is your goal score?
2) When are you planning to apply to Business School?
3) What Schools are you planning to apply to?

I had given GMAT in October last year and scored 680 (Q50, V30). I had used the following material:
An online video course
OG 2012
OG Verbal Review 2
GMAT Prep Free tests and Exam pack 1.

I am planning to give GMAT again on 3rd Aug . I see lot of potential to improve in Verbal and I am currently working on verbal concepts.

I need some guidance on Quant. Though my score last time was okay in quant, I'm afraid I don't ignore it this time.
I am planning to solve OG 2016 and new Qs from OG 2017. With that I am planning to Buy GMAT prep Question Pack 1 (with 404 Qs).
I am also planning to subscribe to an online practice test series.
I will also subscribe to 25 GMAT Club Quant tests too. Please suggest if I need to solve anything else to make sure I am consistent with my performance.

My target score is 740. Will retake GMAT if I get anything less than 720.

If my score is as per expectations then will apply in round 1.

I'm targeting top 30 colleges.

Please provide your guidance Rich.

Hi All,
I'm planning to take GMAT somewhere in August first week. Right now I'm revising my verbal concepts. Planning to start Quant by last week of June and take it to mid July. I'll be solving official questions, scholaranium tests for verbal and GMAT Club tests for Quant.

I want to check how many practice tests do I need to solve before the actual exam. I'm planning to devote two weeks completely for solving practice tests.

I already have 2 free tests and official Exam pack 1. Which are the other test companies I should subscribe to get a good practice.

Thanks.

For each practice test, you will need at least 3-4 days. Day 1 for taking the test and the rest of the days for analysing your performance. Note that after the test, you need to run through each question again, find out if there is a better method for the questions you answered correctly and revise the concepts of the questions your answered incorrectly. If done properly, this evaluation takes quite a few hours.
I'm currently working on concepts, official guide questions and sectional tests.
Planning to devote 20 days before exam only for giving practice tests and revision.
Can you please suggest total how many tests I should target solving in this duration?

I prefer the spread out practice tests approach. After you are done with most of the concepts, even if all are not done, you should start taking the practice tests - one a week. They tell you the areas in which you need to put in more effort. I would like to know this when I have plenty of time on my hands instead of just a couple of weeks. A little bit done regularly for many days gives better result than a lot crammed into a few days.
If you follow your own approach, in the last 20 days, you can take 3-4 practice tests but none in the last 3-4 days.

Hi Yashkumar,

If the last Test that you took (whether the Official GMAT or a practice CAT) was last October, then it's been over 7 months since you took an Exam. We need to get a sense of current skills, strengths and weaknesses right NOW - which is why I suggested that you take a FULL-LENGTH CAT (with the Essay and IR sections).
