I am sorry to hear about your Cornell status.

It's hard to say exactly why this happened or what you could do differently without seeing your application itself. Yes, your volunteer/EC work is subpar but often times it can come down to the essays and what a candidate says and does not say. These essays require a certain "art" to them to be successful.

We frequently help reapplicants or later roundapplications who didn't have success in earlier rounds. Many times we are able to help them reposition themselves to get into even better schools! If that interests you, I strongly recommend you reach out for a free consultation. There's still time for R2 and beyond.

Thanks for reaching out to everyone.

Tepper is a stretch. Kelley and Kenan-Flagler are target schools. Desautels is somewhat in between those tow.

Sauder and Schulich are more attainable given their lower GMAT scores.

Hope that helps!

Thanks for sharing all of this excellent information!

If you are looking at R2, there isn't a ton you can do given the limited time remaining. Besides retake the GMAT and put together the best possible essays and, to the extent you have any influence, great recommendation letters.

Fortunately, you have a balanced profile and should have the content to impress the AdCom at these MBA and MSBA programs.

How far along are you? That's a lot of work with no much time left. Please reach out if you think my team can help you get organized and execute a plan of action.

Thanks for reaching out as well.

You should be competitive even with a 690 on the GMAT thanks to your high verbal score.

You do not need internships in finance to get an MsC in Finance. In fact, the argument is that you NEED the degree to get into the field in the first place!

Make sure you write really good essays capturing all of your other internship experience. Showing your responsibilities and results will go a long way in demonstrating your potential to the AdCom at these programs.

LSE and HEC will be tough (they always are) but you should still apply. The others feel more attainable.

My team is very experienced in the MsC Finance admissions process in the UK. If you think we can be of help, please reach out for a a free consultation using the link below:

Thank You for reviewing my profile!

I am re-taking my GMAT on the 2nd December and I plan to work on the application right after.

I believe, while chances to get an MBA admit are bleak with the current score, I can target top MSBA programs in USA - is my thinking correct?

That's probably right. MSBA programs are less competitive because they aren't nearly as versatile and don't quite have the same resources as MBA programs.

What about potentially dropping down in the rankings for other MBA programs to improve your chances? I suppose it depends on what you are trying to optimize.

It'd be great for you to speak with our team and hash this all out. Up to you, of course!

Hi Team,

I would be grateful if you could evaluate my profile for the full time MBA programs at LBS, Insead and Duke. Additionally, would be great if you could recommend some more schools as well.

1. GMAT Score -710 (Q49, V38)
2. Under graduation- B Tech in Mechanical Engineering from Manipal University (GPA-8.7/10)
3. Work Experience- 5 years (2 with KPMG India and 3 years of international work experience with Ernst and Young, Singapore)- Working in the technology risk consulting domain, where i advise clients to reduce IT risks in their business processes

4. Extra curriculars-

Founded NGO in India- where we help slum dwellers (Run drug awareness campaigns, employment drives for women in slums, and help enroll slum children in government schools)

College Tennis team captain.

5. Post MBA career goals- Switch to strategy consulting from technology risk consulting, wherein i help firms with cost reduction, process enhancements through business process redesign.

Thanks so much with your help.

Warm Regards,
Rohan

Thanks for reaching out.

LBS and INSEAD feel like they should fall into your "stretch" category. A 710 on the GMAT is great, but for your demographic, it's below-par. Still, you'll have a chance just not a tremendous one.

Duke (Fuqua) seems like a Target/High Target school. You might want to also consider Michigan (Ross), UT Austin (McCombs), Cornell (Johnson), UCLA (Anderson) and Georgetown (McDonough) to help round out your list. You could also throw in NYU (Stern) though I'd consider that to be in line with Duke (Fuqua) in terms of difficulty.

Hi Admissionado. Thank you for taking the time to do this. I got waitlisted post-interview at Ross R1. Do you mind please evaluating my profile and some of the questions I have below

Why I want an MBA
I'd like to use my MBA to transition from consulting to a corporate development role at an early-stage start-up. Throughout my career, I have always been drawn to building things and developing new solutions, be it trying to develop a new recruiting approach to improve gender diversity or whilst at university when as President of a club I had to find a way to raise capital in a very short amount of time. I have done a combination of strategic/implementation work and feel an MBA would provide me with the opportunity to gain a more well-rounded knowledge about how to run a start-up.

Why I want one now:
I have noticed that throughout my career I am often on projects that are attractive to what the partners can sell currently. Typically this involves doing work for mining or legacy companies. I do not see a lot of my skills or experience being useful in 10+ years time if I stay in consulting. If I were to stay for another year in consulting, I would hit Manager and it becomes a little harder to transition as I might be seen as a “career consultant”.

Background
• Work experience:
o 5 years at current big 4 consultancy – 2 promotions
o I used to work in the strategy team and now do a lot more Infrastructure work, however, it’s mainly implementation.
o I have worked in both Australia and the UK, and was fortunate to gain a transfer to the UK due to high performance/relevant experience
o At work, I led our recruitment efforts, and came up with some innovative ways to improve the team’s gender balance from ~15% to ~35%, for a team of 60+ that was heavily mining focused this was significant
o I also delivered and led a lot of the Tableau, Excel training nationally which led to follow-on work.
• Extracurriculars
o Volunteered at an orphanage for 4 months (during uni), helped a female student convince the administration to let her attend university/live in a hostel rather than get married, the first time a female student from that orphanage has attended college
o Heavily involved in clubs at university – was the President of a team of 40 people, turnover of 150K+, awarded club of the year. Also sat on a number of university boards.
o Have minor EC’s post uni, have mentored students through pro-bono consulting projects but not as strong as during uni
o Play a lot of chess and attend a lot of football matches (World Cup in Russia, Attended a domestic football match in over 17 countries)
• Undergrad school / major:
o Top Australian University (top 4)
o Double Major of Commerce / Finance
• Race: Indian, born and brought up in Australia
• Sex: Male
Stats
• GMAT 730 (Q48, V41, IR7, AWA 5)
• GPA: 5.8/7, converts to a 3.4/4.0

My questions for you:
• I was recently put on the waitlist for Ross, which has made me question my school selections, are the following within reach given my profile?
Booth, Kellogg, Haas, Columbia, LBS, Stern, Yale SOM
• I am not looking at lower-ranked schools at present as they don’t have a reputation in Australia, I was leaning towards Melbourne Business School as a backup, are there any other schools I should be considering?
• Do you think I am viewed in the ‘Australian’ bucket or the ‘Indian’ bucket?
• As an Australian Citizen, I can qualify for an E3 Visa (makes it easier to get a job as I don’t have to enter the lottery/requires less sponsorship requirements) is this worth mentioning in my essays, I have a feeling I may have been WL’d due to a start-up goal and being international?
• My backup goal is to transition to a Tier 1 Consulting Firm, aiming for the Middle East, Infrastructure. Is this a better goal for schools like LBS/Yale?
• I applied to Ross without a GMAT score and thought I did well in the interview, would a 730 materially help get me off the waitlist and when would you recommend, I submit?

Thank you in advance for your feedback and consideration, I really appreciate it.

Happy to help.

• I was recently put on the waitlist for Ross, which has made me question my school selections, are the following within reach given my profile?
Booth, Kellogg, Haas, Columbia, LBS, Stern, Yale SOM

Each school is different, so I wouldn't say that schools that are higher ranked than Ross (which these are) are necessarily out of reach. I do think you'll have some difficult with Columbia, Kellogg and Booth, but should be a fit for Haas, Stern and possibly Yale SOM (they are very selective when it comes to GMAT/GPA.) LBS is probably aligned with Stern, though it could be argued it's more on the level of Booth/Kellogg/LBS.

• I am not looking at lower-ranked schools at present as they don’t have a reputation in Australia, I was leaning towards Melbourne Business School as a backup, are there any other schools I should be considering?

It depends on what you consider to be lower-ranked. Dartmouth (Tuck) and Duke (Fuqua) might two to throw in the mix.

• Do you think I am viewed in the ‘Australian’ bucket or the ‘Indian’ bucket?

Probably a combination of the two. The AdComs have their own way for defining your ethnicity/nationality. Does it make a real difference in terms of your approach to things? I would think not.

• As an Australian Citizen, I can qualify for an E3 Visa (makes it easier to get a job as I don’t have to enter the lottery/requires less sponsorship requirements) is this worth mentioning in my essays, I have a feeling I may have been WL’d due to a start-up goal and being international?

No, do not mention visas in your essays. It's out of scope.

• My backup goal is to transition to a Tier 1 Consulting Firm, aiming for the Middle East, Infrastructure. Is this a better goal for schools like LBS/Yale?

It does not matter. Career goals are not necessarily better suited for schools. In fact, you can argue that taking a road less traveled might work favorably for you (e.g., Studying Management at Wharton)

• I applied to Ross without a GMAT score and thought I did well in the interview, would a 730 materially help get me off the waitlist and when would you recommend, I submit?

It might. It depends on kind of feedback they provided you. You should do whatever you can to get that feedback. AdCom members will often be open to a quick conversation to give you actionable items to improve your profile.

If you need any help with your upcoming applications, please reach out to us. We are around the clock for the next few weeks and have ample experience with all the schools on your list. A link to sign up for a free consultation is below:
