Hi,
I searched a lot to find tips to write a resume. I found a lot of articles online about how to write one but none showing the exact format. I would be happy if someone could answer my following queries.
1. Provided some schools have their own resume format , certain others do no specify a specific format. Do we need to use any specific format for resumes sent to such schools?
2. Is it safe option to get your resume written by a professional or have it cross checked by them.If so, can someone provide the best professionals resume writers that they have experience with.
Posted from my mobile device1. Every b-school requires a single page resume (unless they ask you for a longer one). Also, there is a basic format that works at most b-schools. This includes:
a. at least a 10 size font
b. well-defined bullets. possibly within 2 lines.
c. no photographs or fancy formatting. NO info such as gender/ marital status/ date of birth etc...far too common mistakes that we often see in resumes.
d. white space on the resume. don't make the text run from end to end. Leave sufficient margins.
YOu can create a master resume using these guidelines. That said, I would advise you to check the application requirements of every b-school where you are applying. If they need a specific format, put your resume in that format for the b-school.
2. yes! getting professional help on a resume makes a lot of sense. Most applicants are not able to show impact and achievements on resumes. Instead, they focus upon daily responsibilities that are mostly technical and more relevant for a job resume. An MBA resume is different from a job resume and therefore needs a different level of understanding, which an MBA admissions consultant can help you with.
I'd advise you not to get it "written" by a professional writer - get feedback on what you write instead.
Hope that answers your questions.
