Self Preparation

The day I decided to write GMAT exam, I have booked the exam date. This became a strong point as it set my deadlines and targets. Unfortunately I had little time to prepare as I am working from 9 am to 9 pm. I used to study from 10 pm to 2 pm or morning 5 am to 8 am

I am strong in Quant, being a Engineering graduate. I knew I had to do a lot in Verbal. Unfortunately I didn’t spend time on Verbal.

I have started my preparation with Ready 4GMAT video series.

This is one of the best for making an overall idea about GMAT, basic teachings in all the sections - Verbal, Quants, AWA and IR. Tutor Eric Maltzer is a great teacher. Best part of this video series is the time to be spent. It requires around 30 hours to acquire basic knowledge. i.e., 9 no.s 3 hours videos. If you have to note down, it may go up to 50 hours.

I have started with a score of 520 Q40, V22 Manhattan. Then 470 Q39, V16 in Sigmax Q39, V16. Then 500 Q39, V20 in Veritasprep. Took Manhattan again after 15 days - I scored 580 Q45 V25. Scores were varying without much studies. Quants I have improved, but no much improvement in Verbal.

I could understand all the scores were not giving correct picture after I wrote my first test in official website mba.com. This was 5 days prior to the test day, that is on 15.08.2018. My score was pathetic 430 Q35, v16, IR 4. This was a big disappointment and same time it motivated me to work hard. I have taken 5 days leave from company. Q I score 35 with 21 correct and 10 wrong answers. V 15 correct and 21 wrong answers. IR 5 correct and 7 wrong answers. All Q qns were very simple. I understood it is because i have done lot of silly mistakes on easy qns.

1 day completely I devoted to Q for not committing silly mistakes. I was very careful and made myself slow in answering and answered minimal mistakes. Next again I wrote the exam in official website. I scored 510 Q 44 V17. This time Q qns were tough. 14 correct and 17 wrong. V 13 correct and 23 wrong.IR i scored 0, 2 correct and 9 wrong. I couldn't complete the section

Now I wanted to improve my Verbal. I started reading Manhattan SC books. It really worked. I prepared OG SC, CR and RC. But I could complete only 30% of the questions. I slowly started improving verbal.

As the time is short I know I cannot complete my preparation. I have 4 days left. I prepared 15 hours daily for 4 days.

On the day of the exam my friend called me and told me carry passport. Unfortunately I didn’t have the passport with me. It was expired also. I couldn’t write the exam. Somehow God has given me patience to be calmand let it go. I wanted to check my score again. There was only 2 tests available in official site. So i took the test in Sigmax. Last time i got 470 there, almost 1 month back. I scheduled my time on the same time of my GMAT exam. I scored 610 Q47, V26. I am very happy with my results

I have started my preparations again. Took a test in Experts Global after 4 days. I scored 640 Q46,V32 with 17 and 18 correct answers in Q & V. IR score was 3 with 3 correct answers

My strategy for GMAT exam: Prepare well for Verbal and achieve 670-700 score. For 700, I need Q48, V38 or Q47 V39 or Q46 V40. I have booked 15 tests in Experts Global for 50$, i.e., around 3400/-. I have to renew my passport.I am hopeful I will cross 670 and if I am luck, I will touch 700

Experts Global - 15 exams will give good insights on my weakness and were I have to take care. This package include 15 exams including all the sections - Verbal, Quants, IR, AWA. This will be a big asset for me. I am thankful to the one who introduced me to this exam package. This will surely give a boost in my IR scores. Verbal i have lot of scope to improve as I have not studied any of the material in complete form. I will also do all the Questions in OG before GMAT exam

Learning : Always complete the sections. Take care of IR - it will spoil your chances of admission. Carry passport while going for exam. Note down all the necessary tips for all sections in note book. You can even highlight the relevant ones while revision
