The correct idiom is the parallel--- 'both about - and about'-, found only in A, the correct choice

E. Corporations need to rethink both (where they focus their philanthropy) X and (how they go about their giving.) Y

Why is answer choice "E" incorrect ?

Idiom could be "Both X & Y"

option C and D are clearly incorrect due to omission of both
as for rest 3 choices we have to check for correct idiom ' both about .... and about ' which is used in option A correctly
option B and E changes the meaning by use of ' how they go about '
correct answer - A

Option A has the correct idiom 'both about and about' and mantaine paralellism (by usage of about in both the clause).

Option A is correct.

rethink about - I think it is somehow redundant and wordy...E seems fine to me...

I also think E could be right - could we get an expert to weigh in on this question?

I was not satisfied with the OA. For me, the answer was E. So, I did a bit of a research and found the question source. Indeed, the answer is E.

Check here (page 454, last sentence before the start of Where to Focus):

Indeed, E is the sentence used in the book.

I could not rule out Option E. Can anyone please explain why option A is correct?

This is a debatable question and hence will lock this topic. If you have any further questions please do let us know and we will have a look.

Thanks

KINDLY SEE THIS LINK PAGE 454 and last line. Option E seems right.

Option E is better than option A for the following reasons:

1. Think about + noun (A preposition is preferably followed by a noun rather than by a clause.)
2. Think + clause

I think about the future.... correct
I think how I shall manage in future..... correct
I think about how I shall manage in future..... questionable
