Hi All,
I am confused about whether to retake gmat or not...
I am not aiming for top 15 because of my financial constraint but i want to get into a good b school with a good ROI.
My profile
1)Indian -IT-Male-25 years
2)Work Ex-3 Years in Oracle(India), by the time of admission it would be 4 years.
3)GMAT- Q 50 V31 IR 7 =680 , GPA 3.6
4)IIT Graduate.
5)Looking for college where i can complete my MBA 2 Years (preferable) in range of USD 40,000-50,000 (per year)

Please Advise!

I believe this was asked in another forum as well, but replying here for the benefit of others.

I recommend retaking the GMAT because in order to get an MBA for 40-50K you will need significant scholarship assistance. Scholarships are given on the basis of a strong overall profile (the essays become key) and high GMAT score. A 680 is not likely to get you a large scholarship at most schools, though it could at some lower ranked programs.

Good luck!

Best,
Scott

Yes, absolutely. Retake the GMAT. As a candidate coming from IIT, your base is very strong, but without a GMAT of at least 720, you will be wasting it. There's no rush here, and you should be applying to an MBA ONLY with the best score you can possibly get.

Here's a great article about Indians and retaking the GMAT which I think may help: https://admissionado.com/mba/the-tuesday ... n=mba_blog

Best,
Jon

Hello,

Good work ex. Good company.

GPA 3.6/5 right. (convert it on /4 ) if it is on 4. then awesome.

Now GMAT. you score are quite good. but for Indian candidate, it might be a BIT of a problem. (focus on BIT) if you can hit 700-710. it should sail you across.

College, why you prefer 2 years.
and why the range on fee. there are easy loans. and average paybacks from most of the colleges are pretty impressive. so do some research here.

Hi Do you have a list of colleges where you would like to apply?

With this information, details can be provided in a better way.

Thanks for ur response...
@prabhakrn : Loans require collateral which i am afraid not available. 2 Years because its full time MBA that is of interest to me.
Colleges-Kelley,Rotman, basically any good college with rank b/w 20-50 and decent ROI is what i am targeting!

Not anymore my friend. there this prodigy and some other sources, where you can get a good amount of loan at low interest rates. and no collateral

(https://prodigyfinance.com/get_a_loan?u ... -home-page)

What I am saying is, aim higher...don't under play... You have a good acad. Good work ex. Quite OK GMAT. and if you hit 710. even better.
you can have a quite reasonable shot at top 10 colleges.

Plan something like this:
2 college in top 5
2 in 5-15
3 in 15-25. (your preferred area)

Prabhakarn: Thanks for the reply. So u suggest i retake the GMAT? (within 15-20 days) as R1 dates of most colleges ends around mid october......
Problem is i am literally saturated ..... preps were going good
Prep 1=660, Manhattan,Kaplan-690/680
Prep 2-690
Prep 3 -730
Prep 5-700
Prep 4-750
I know Verbal is my weakest spot but don't know how and what to prepare...its simple ....i was literally saturated at Q25 and thought of running away from center.... When i saw my ESR ,frankly i was doing great in 1-25 questions (75% Accuracy) but post 25 it dropped to 50%!!!

I can retake the exam but i am clueless about my preparation and don't want to spend any money over classes and all (already enrolled in Jambore)

October is a month away. and you can even appear for the test by the end of sept. you have a score to make the application. and if you manage to get a good score then send communicate to them that.

It happens to most of the applicants. by the middle of the verbal section, the brain stops working. all you can do is prepare in that way that you still make most of the post 25 questions. you can take some course. but what you really need is few points up in verbal section. so practice that and take some tests.
