I applied to Warwick in July when LSE/Oxbridge was closed, so I was able to fit into the few slots remaining, which I think tells you something about the potential strength of my overall profile despite its weaknesses. However, because I will need financial aid, I only plan on applying to MIT. I think Stanford and Harvard are downright impossible to get into, which leaves MIT. I'm also still interested in going to INSEAD if it could at all help me get into management consulting in Hong Kong as an associate.
Strengths :
1. Interesting work experience in the military - I participated in important national level military investigations as interpretors, taking the place of commissioned officers for the task. I've also taken part in translating a forensics textbook in addition to typing up powerpoint presentations for important procurement projects within the unit
2. Excellent track record at work; performance reviews show this. Academic nature of work experience - running regressions, searching for data so extensive use of statistics programs and Excel, reading research papers and analyzing them, and analyzing real economic phenomena to churn out research
Weaknesses :
Poor undergraduate GPA because of illnesses and other personal reasons. I think my grad GPA which is above average at a quantitatively heavy program could mitigate this but I'm not sure. Also, I will be 31~32 by the time I matriculate next year, except that I had mandatory military service lasting 2 years so I'm hoping admissions will discount my age accordingly, but I can't be sure.
