Hi,
I just gave a diagnostic test at Veritas Prep. I received an overall score of 550 (Q44 , V21) with 5/8 in IR. I had skipped the AWA part while writing the test. After a thorough analysis, I realized the kind of mistakes I did and I have been going through a lot of posts here since then on how to start preparing for the exam with the right set of tools. I am targeting a score of 720+ with a focus on maximizing my Verbal score. I am thinking to appear for GMAT by the end of May'17.
I understand that I need to focus on Verbal more than on I need to on Quants. I am ready to give in 3hrs of study on weekdays and 5hrs on weekends. If I follow this study plan starting Feb/17 onward, Will I have enough time to prepare? Or am I rushing in for the exam too early on my prep?
I have the following materials for my prep:-
1. GMAT Official Guide 2017
2. For Verbal (Target Score - 40) : e-GMAT Verbal Online partnered along with the tests from GMAT Club. I am even considering to buy PowerScore CR Bible (only if I feel e-GMAT is not enough).
3. For Quant (Target Score - 50) : GMAT Club Tests (as far as i know, to improve from 44 to 50, GMAT Club tests are the best). However, do suggest if there are better materials available to help me improve.
Kindly let me know if I need to have some other materials mainly for Verbal, given my less than miserable score .

Welcome to the gmatclub.
Q44 in diagnostic test is really good. and overall 550 in your first CAT is fine.
For Quant - Gmatclub test are best.For approach follow Bunuel's methods for solving questions.
For Verbal - Stick to official material. All OGs, Question pack-1, exam pack 1&2.
MGMAT CATs are also very good. but always rely on gmatprep CAT scores.

To start, a 550 initial CAT score is solid performance (the average score on the Official GMAT hovers around 540-550 most years). However, by skipping the Essay section, you took a shorter, easier Exam - so that score result is likely a bit 'inflated.' As you continue to study, you really MUST take the FULL CAT (with the Essay and IR sections) in a realistic fashion every time. To hit your goal score, you will likely need at least 3 months of consistent, guided study; you've given yourself the better part of 4 months - which is good. However, your assumption that taking lots of practice Tests will make you a better Test Taker is not a good way of looking at this whole process. A CAT is really a 'measuring device' - when used correctly, it will give you a realistic score and help define your strengths and weaknesses, but it will NOT help you to fix any of those weaknesses. To raise your scores, you have to put in the necessary practice and repetitions. The CAT will show you whether your studies are helping you to improve or not.
Before I can offer you any additional advice, it would help if you could provide a bit more information on your goals:
1) When are you planning to apply to Business School?
2) What Schools are you planning to apply to?
