Hi all,
I have a quick question on staying in the US after the MBA as an international student without a greencard.
I generally see these options for this:
- OPT (Optional Practical Training) - allows for 1 year of staying in US after graduation
- STEM OPT extension - allows for 3 years of staying in US after graduation at schools that qualify (e.g. Berkeley Haas)
- H1B visa - can apply for this while studying and/or while in an OPT program, however this is some kind of lottery and not guaranteed to work out
My questions are:
- Is this accurate? What is the typical visa that people use to stay in the US after graduation?
- How likely is it currently to get an H1B visa after graduation? (my background: German consultant)
- Any other options that I'm missing out?
- I'm currently thinking about rejecting a H/W/S school to accept a Berkeley offer just to have the guaranteed 3 years using OPT STEM - does this make sense?
Thanks a lot in advance and Merry Christmas!
