vitorpteixeira
After all the gardening we did , the sun shining on the flowerbeds makes a beautiful sight.
Would be also correct to use Made instead of makes?
Hi vitorpteixeira, this is
not a
subject verb agreement issue but a
tense issue.
As for this sentence:
After all the gardening we did , the sun shining on the flowerbeds made a beautiful sight. Perhaps a more appropriate sentence would be:
After all the gardening we had done, the sun shining on the flowerbeds made a beautiful sight. This is because when
two events happen in the
past (
gardening and
making beautiful sight), gardening had been done
earlier in the past and so, must be preferably expressed in past perfect. Some people do opine however, that since the word
after has been used, the sequence of events is already every clear and so, we don't need to
necessarily use past perfect to depict the chronological sequence of the two events.
