MBA.com( quant - 44, v - 41)
Manhattan (quant -42, verbal - 35 )
To get to your goal score, you should drive your quant score to at least 48, and 49 or higher would be preferred by most top schools.

To do so, you could master quant topic by topic, focusing on one of your less strong areas of quant at a time by first reviewing or learning the relevant concepts and strategies and then answering dozens of practice questions involving that one area until you get them correct consistently.

With Q48 or Q49 and V41, you'd be at 720 or 730.

Then, you could increase your score further by improving in verbal. For a complete discussion of how to increase your verbal score, see this post.

How to Score High on GMAT Verbal

Also, you could use this GMAT score chart to see what combinations of quant and verbal scores will get you to your goal.

Target of 730+ any suggestion ?

Might be better to take the Official Mock score of V41 as a better reflection of your Verbal ability than than the third party Manhattan Mock V35. Another 1 or 2 Official Mocks will help let you know if that was an outlier. If you end up with a consistent Verbal on the Official Mocks that is around V38 (halfway between those two), consider working on your solving approach.

How to get a V40 or higher on the GMAT? What about a V51?

For Quant, at a Q44 level, there may be some fundamentals that are a bit slippery. Trying to find shorter ways to solve questions can also be helpful. See if you can leverage the answer choices, for example.

Hi MonishBhawale,

Before I can offer you the specific advice that you’re looking for, it would help if you could provide a bit more information on how you've been studying and your goals:

1) How long have you studied? How many hours do you typically study each week?
2) What study materials have you used so far? What “brands” of CATs/mocks have you used?
3) On what dates (or approximate dates) did you take EACH of your CATs/mocks and how did you score on EACH (including the Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores for EACH)?
4) When are you planning to apply to Business School and what Schools are you planning to apply to?

GMAT assassins aren't born, they're made,

Hi MonishBhawale,

Let me share my insights here.

Official mocks are the most reliable ones as they are believed to be the closest to the actual GMAT exam. So, it may be wise to consider it to be a close indicator of your score in terms of present status of preparation.

For scoring 700 and above, you need to make sure you don’t get the easy & medium questions wrong as GMAT test is adaptive in nature. For that, being conceptually clear on all topics is really vital. Not only this, you have to be good with application of concepts also, because GMAT is a test of application of concepts.

In case of Quant, it appears that you are good with concepts but you have to work a little more on the application of concepts while solving the Quant Questions. You should consider spending more time on analysing the solutions of the questions from the topics in which you are weak. By analysing I mean, go through each step of the solution, identify the exact step at which you made the mistake, compare your approach with the right one and then learn the right approach. This should help.

Coming to Verbal, let me tell you that the improvement to V41+ is all about identifying the core pain points not only from a conceptual standpoint but also from a methodical standpoint. Let me elaborate.

You're probably doing decently well on the easy and medium questions but when it comes to hard questions the issues start surfacing. What it means is that the methods that you might be using are not efficient. There is a need to improve the methodology and focus on logic. Using the right methodologies and strategies to approach the Verbal questions should ideally help you to avoid the traps set by the test makers. If you do so, it is possible to improve your score to V41+ and push your overall score as well.

The right methods for SC is meaning based approach (not splits), CR is framework driven pre-thinking and RC is involving yourself in understand why the various parts of the passage is written and not just what is written.

In short, if you work slowly on your approach and focus on learning from each question you should see a significant improvement in your score.

If you are struggling with some specific topics, you may share the same for better understanding and I can help you out with your worries.

Having said this, I would like to know what is the approach being followed by you currently, along with a few other things (including your exact pain points) so that I can suggest you a more structured plan and help you with advanced strategies. .
