Hi harleen.kaur,

Pacing issues don't exist on their own - they're the results of OTHER issues. Thus, before I can offer you the specific advice that you’re looking for, it would help if you could provide a bit more information on how you've been studying and your goals:

Studies:
1) How long have you studied?
2) What materials have you used?
3) How have you scored on each of your CATs (including the Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores)?
4) Can you describe your 'timing' issue in more detail?

Goals:
5) What is your goal score?
6) When are you planning to take the GMAT?
7) When are you planning to apply to Business School?
8) What Schools are you planning to apply to?

GMAT assassins aren't born, they're made,
Rich

Hi,

I am planning to give my GMAT exam soon, however, I am not able to finish my mock test on time. Can anyone share their time planner? A planner explaining that how much Time I should spend on each section so that I can complete my test on time?

Harleen, here are some wonderful posts on time management. They discuss where you might be wasting time and how to set that right.

Hi,

I am planning to give my GMAT exam soon, however, I am not able to finish my mock test on time. Can anyone share their time planner? A planner explaining that how much Time I should spend on each section so that I can complete my test on time?
Here is my approach to timing issue:

Quant: We get an average of 2 minutes per question. So, some questions take me longer while others not as much. Nevertheless, I do not spend a second more at 3 minutes mark. 2:30 minutes must be a red flag zone. Practice questions in a timed manner and you would develop a sense of timing and hence get better at it.

Here is a rough Breakup for Quant:

By question # 11, -> Time left 55 minutes.
By question # 26, -> Time left 25 minutes.

Verbal: Everyone would suggest that you shouldn't average more than 1:30 minutes in SC and 2 minutes each for CR & RC.

However, here is my timing breakup during the test.

I have divided 75 minutes of Verbal in the following way:

4 Sections of 18 minutes each and 3 minutes for the last question.

So, By question # 11, -> Time left 57 minutes.
By question # 21, -> Time left 39 minutes.
By question # 31, -> Time left 21 minutes.

Do not fret if your timing is off by 2 minutes ( plus or minus) as that may be the courtesy of RC.

Thank you guys. I scored 51 in the Quant section in my last mock, but I performed badly in the verbal section. I realized that I was taking too much of time in CR section and in RC. So, wanted to know how to manage my time.

I will now practice in small slots of 15 mins to improve my speed in the verbal section.

Thank you!!

You would need to develop a strategy for tackling RC, there are a few posted in forums. Go through them and understand which one works best for you. As far as CR is concerned, developing a correct strategy is only half the game. You'd need to develop a sense to identify the common patterns in the questions. So, practice as varied variety of questions as you can.
