This one was really tough and honestly, I am still doubtful about my answer. Answer should be E The main fight was between A, B, and E as C and D have some grammatical mistakes. C) Here the modifier the art of whom is world renowned is away from the noun it modifies i.e.Julio Gonzalez D) This is a sentence fragment. There is no conjunction between Phrase (An artist…..themes) and Main clause (Julio…....renowned) Herein after we would look for the choice that has clear meaning. The intended meaning should be Julio Gonzalez was world renowned and his art explored the Spanish cultural themes (He can explore the cultural themes through his art but he himself can not explore that) Both A and B can be eliminated on the grounds on meaning issue. (IMO A also have a minor grammatical mistake) A) Here the main clause is An artist was world renowned for his art. Julio Gonzalez describes the name of that artist so it should be separated from the rest of the sentence with comma. This choice would have been correct if it had the following structure. An artist who explored spanish cultural themes,Julio Gonzalez, was world renowned for his art. B) Not in accordance with intended meaning. Spanish cultural themes were not the world renowned. I am still unclear on why option E is wrong. Both A and E convey the same meaning, no? It is illogical to think that "art" by itself can explore anything.

Art cannot explore something and that is "the problem" with option E. Option E is illogically conveying that art explored Spanish cultural themes.

Point to note: We are not thinking that "art by itself can explore anything" -- it is the sentence which is conveying that illogical concept and here we are present to detect that illogical thought.

E is wrong because it uses present tense, whereas in the original sentence we use past tense. Since this is a "meaning change" type of question, changing the tense would change the meaning and make E wrong.

what is the source of this question ?
A is not a good answer--->To put some artist as "was world renowned "seems to indicate that he is no more world renowned !! 
this logic is specially applicable to people who have achieved success ,at times, after their death .for instance 
we will say : Shakespeare is a world renowned writer

Hi Experts , 
 I have the following queries .
1. Tense: The artist is renowned even in today's context , so the correct tense should be 'is' and not was.
2. Both 'renowned for his art' and 'world-renowned artist' convey the same meaning . The official explanation , however, runs counter to this logic.
3. Art explored Spanish themes sound logically correct .
