From what I understand, it's for two types of people. Those with strong leadership / soft skills and those with nontraditional backgrounds. Those with nontraditional backgrounds, it allows them extra time in the summer and fall to spend on coursework. For those with strong leadership skills, the school expects them to be leaders on campus and the program's lesser fall coursework allocates extra time for these students to become leaders in campus clubs and organizations during the fall. The program gives you a head start on your coursework, but more importantly on recruiting and building relationships with faculty. I've had two friends go through this program, both loved it.

Fellow Sternies. Me Bahariti. Anyone with the idea: When does NYU do their background check? I see they say 'in the spring.' But when is the Spring? March 1st or March 30?

Any other Stern admitted students currently located in Los Angeles? I'd love to get together! I'm still waiting to hear from Anderson, but Stern has always been my top choice. $ will end up being a factor.

When are you guys planning to leave work? I was thinking July but I am now considering May. Is that too early? I want time to prepare and get up to speed on my finance knowledge as well as take a decent break before the storm.

I'm planning on mid June so I can go on a trip and brush up my math skills in general like you mentioned. I think you'd mentioned you live in NYC though? I'm counting moving time in quitting in June, since I have to move from Seattle to NYC with a dog I can't bring on a plane, so that adds a bit of extra time for me. I think it just depends on what you want to do with your time off. The only thing my interviewer actually mentioned is that she recommends not taking more than 3 months off to just sit around and do absolutely nothing since recruiters will look at that negatively. But if you're traveling and studying, it should be fine.

This is great advice. Most of the time would be spent studying and maybe 3 weeks of travel. So May be to early especially if I can't back it up to recruiters. I asked a few current students advice on what they would have done differently before the start of the program and they all mentioned taking more time off. So this got me thinking. I will most likely be ending the first week of June.

Surprised that very few people have joined the official FB and Linkedin groups for the admitted students. Are people still deciding which school they want to go to or has Stern really accepted only around 70 applicants so far?
