Hi prags1989

Opting for second MBA is quite common these days and you can definitely apply to ISB with your current profile. Your past academics are a little weak, therefore you should definitely aim for a 720 + GMAT Score and of course, the higher the better.

Secondly, while most students do go to ISB for a career change and you can definitely achieve it, you would still need to justify it in your application. You need to detail why you need a second MBA, as writing that you want to shift to marketing may not be the answer that adcom is looking for. We urge you to dive deeper into your own profile and find the inspiration and stories for your second MBA that can be tied up to your goals.

Feel free to reach out for a detailed discussion.

Hi Swetali,

I see that you have lifted the last two lines from another poster. Firstly, there is no need to be nervous (unless you lift someone else's essays while writing the application :-D ). Thousands of applicants successfully go through the application cycle every year.

Secondly, I am not sure whether you actually want to become an entrepreneur or that line got lifted by mistake. However, when you write entrepreneurship as a career goal, you have to tread very carefully. With no past experience in entrepreneurship or running internal projects like an intrapreneur, just saying that you wish to be an entrepreneur may not be enough to convince the adcom that you really have the skills or aptitude to become one.

Your work experience in the social sector stands differentiated. Over the past four years, we have increasingly helped clients from the social development sector- this also implies that b-schools look at these candidates favorably. most of them didn't start at an NGO but made a switch with 1-3 years of working in a corporate. So, I'd not be concerned about the change in industry. Infact, I would leverage it to show two different set of skills and experience of two different industries.

You are yet to take your GMAT so that will complete an important part in the puzzle. Aim for a 700+ although due to the diversity you bring, you could also make it with a score lesser than that.

Hello prags1989,

Thanks for writing in.

Schools are gradually opening up to the possibility of a second MBA. Hence, the fact that you are going for a second MBA should not be a red flag per se if you are able to show motivation for the same.

Your low CGPA is a bit of a concern; to compensate for the same, we suggest that you aim for a score upwards of 720; the higher the score, the better it will be.

Coming to your career goals; while applicants often pursue an MBA as they want to switch their profiles, a switch will definitely require you to provide the Admissions Committee with plenty of answers. Hence, if you do choose to shift your profile, you will need to present convincing reasons for the same and tie up your background with the proposed career goals in a seamless manner.

We would like to offer you a detailed profile evaluation for free. Should you feel the need for the same, please feel free to reach out to us.

All the best!

Hello ChyronGmat,

Hope this finds you well.

There is definitely a lot working for you in terms of your extra-curricular activities and your experience with Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. The GMAT score, though, not stellar, is around the ISB average; coupled with a set of stellar essays, the GMAT score, will stand you a good chance at making it to ISB.

We are a bit apprehensive about your proposed career goals as they do not add up and we recommend that you think a bit more about this before proceeding; a switch to marketing will raise a lot of tough questions and you will need to be prepared for the same.

The following video will help with the essays; please do watch the same:

Hello Robotsky31,

Thanks for writing in.

While we have mentored a number of successful senior applicants, making it to ISB with such high years of experience is not very very simple. You will need to showcase a strong motivation for the MBA through a set of well-written essays. The leadership experience will definitely add a lot of value to your case as will the awards. While you have not mentioned what wish to do after the MBA, the career goals should definitely be in sync with your existing experience.

With regard to your GMAT score, you must aim for a score upwards of 720; the higher the better.

We would love to have a detailed chat with you regarding your case. Should you fell the need for a free profile evaluation, do reach out to us.

All the best!

Hello wizbiz007,

First things first - you have a sound academic background and a very fine GMAT score! This will certainly add a lot of value to your case and give you a very good chance at all the schools you are targetting; of course, the GMAT is only one component of the applications process (albeit an important one); you will need to put forth a strong overall application complete with a set of well-written essays (which portray a logical set of career goals). The extra-curricular activities sound good as well and you should be sure to weave the same in your essays in a way that your candidature appears to be a well-rounded one.

Should you feel the need for a detailed discussion, please feel free to reach out to us.

Hi wizbiz007

Firstly congratulations on your stellar GMAT score. You do have a great profile. Since you're already into Consulting and have good exposure to the strategic aspects of business, you would definitely need to make a strong case for the adcom detailing why you want to do an MBA. Please bear in mind that while ISB is a viable option for you, Consulting companies do not usually hire candidates with 5 plus years of experience from the ISB campus. Therefore, if placement is your only goal, then you may be better suited for the IIM A/B/Cs.
However, with your profile and a well-articulated application we will definitely see a good chance that you can make it through your desired colleges.

All the best!

Hello Team,

I am Dr Pulak Mishra. I have a master degree in dental science. my education qualifications:

1. 10th - 89.8%
2. 12th - 82%
3. BDS
4. MDS
5. 7 papers published
6. thesis work under review for publication
7. 6 years of work ex, 1 year of management of my own clinic, currently working with india's largest dental chain and world no.5 as a clinic head and specialist consultant.
8. gmat - on august 8th. mocks - average of 650.

My intent for pursuing MBA is that after practicing dentistry for all these years I have realised that my heart feels for the business aspect of any organisation. Client and customer handling are the part and parcel of my craft and as a dentist I have to be very good at it. I am more inclined towards programs related to international business management and financial aspects. I do not want to opt for hospital management as it does not satisfy my urge for working on a global scale.
kindly advise what should I do to make my profile apt for applying to ISB or IIM's.

Hello Pulak,

We have helped many doctors gain admit into ISB, however none of them were as qualified as you (MDS). I write this because the MD makes you well qualified as a doctor, however in the application, you will also need to demonstrate some business chops. You have written that you are the clinic head, so it would be important to draw from this experience of managing the clinic as a business (and not just treating patients).
Going back to my experience of helping doctors with their applications, I believe it would be impractical for you to not leverage your experience so far in the healthcare industry, and instead talk about something entirely new. Within the healthcare industry, you could be working in a very diverse role/ function compared to what you have been doing until now. That doesn't have to be hospital management maybe, you could be working with a health care MNC, that gives you a chance to work in international teams. I don't have enough info about you to say anything definitive, however, I'll reiterate, your goals should be a logical mix of your work experience and the skills you have gained.

feel free to schedule a consultation with us by reaching out to me on the email address below.
