Three friends Alice, Bond and Charlie divide $1105 amongs them in such a way that if $10, $20 and $15 are removed from the sums that Alice, Bond and Charlie received respectively, then the share of the sums that they got will be in the ratio of 11 : 18 : 24. How much did Charlie receive?

A. $360
B. $375
C. $480
D. $495
E. $510

How much did Charlie receive initially or after the distribution needs to be made clear ! How are we ascertaining that the initial amount received by Charlie is being asked for ?

Hi stne

It is written that the three friends divide $1105 among themselves.
We are told that if the $10,$20, and $15 is reduced from their original share,
the ratio of their sums will become 11:18:24(as it changes from the original)

If they needed us to find out what his current share is - after the reduction
it would have read "what will Charlie's share after the amount is reduced"

Hope this helps you!

Sorry , this is not convincing ,
I would make a similar argument :
If they wanted us to find the initial amount , the question would have asked what was Charlie's amount before the division or what was Charlie's original amount . With out the OA you would not know what is actually being asked .

Check out these similar questions , clearly mentioning the requirement

total money divided is 1105 among three friends in the share of 11:18:24 but excluding 10, 20 and 15 usd, so lets take out these amount for now from total. 1105-45(10+20+15), we get 1060 divided according to the ratio above. 11x+18x+24x=53x=1060 or x=1060/53 or x=20. Now we know that 24*20 is 480+15 that we excluded, we get 495 usd that the third person received

I attempted the question without calculation. Roughly the ratio between the three division is given. As the amount received by Charlie if reduced by 15, it should be a factor of 24. Hence, only b and d are left, others if reduced by 15 is not even an even no. Now, 24 is little less than 50% of sum of ratio of all three. And, 480 is also little less than 50% of 1060. Hence, I go with D.

$ 1105 does not include 10 + 20 + 15 = 45. Therefore, 1105 - 45 = 1060 is divided among A, B and C in the ratio 11 : 18 : 24.

=> 11 + 18 + 24 = 53

Out of the total of 53 parts of 1060, C receives 24 parts of 1060.

=> \(\frac{24}{53}\) * 1060 = 480.

Initially, C had 480 + 15 = 495

Answer D
