Hello all,
I am planning on going through the application process next fall. I have been a lurker on this site for a while, and just recently stumbled on the Consortium. If anyone has the time, could they clarify what candidates they look for? I somewhat understand their mission statement, but am unsure if I would qualify.
I'm a Hispanic male with 6 years active duty military service prior to my current pursuit of an bachelors degree in economics. I am an active member of the Chinese Language and Culture Club at my University. I was anticipating running for President of the organization for what will be my senior year('18-'19). Would this help my cause in terms of meeting the Consortium mission statement?
You have a heck of a lot going for you. I think being the president of a club will help you the general sense of being in another leadership position, but not as much as doing something specifically demonstrates your commitment to the CGSM mission (unless the culture club serves a function more directly related to the CGSM mission than I'm thinking... which would obviously be great).
Either way, apply.
I think your chances are good and I don't think they are looking only for people who have specifically helped increase representation of underrepresented minorities in business school and management roles. They are looking for people who have demonstrated a strong value of diversity and inclusion. If this sounds like you, you have a good chance of gaining membership.
Just think of it this way- you are already
not a member. The worst thing that can happen is nothing changes. You have nothing to lose and a whole lot to gain.
