Hi there - I am an HBS grad and an admissions consultant and host the B-Schooled podcast for Stacy Blackman Consulting. You can find it on any major podcast app. Episode 62 is specifically dedicated to "The HBS Essay." You might also want to check out episode 15 entitled "6 essay-writing mistakes to avoid."

Best of luck!

Hi,

I am confused between two resume formats for my application. Would really appreciate any insights.
1. One of them has a box for each section and is more detailed. It got a feedback of being slightly difficult to read from someone I showed it to.
2. Second one is American format and easier to read. The confusion is because to create space for this one, I had to remove some of the older stuff from my resume (2017 details) and also had to shorten down my extra-curriculars at college to just one line mention from the 3 lines in earlier resume where I was quantifying my work at each society / club in college.

Would really appreciate any thoughts. Thanks.

Also, my first resume is seen by two people both of whom have guided students for top colleges. One thinks the format is fine, the other person thinks format is slightly difficult to read. I'm super confused.

Why would you not be? As long as you have a bachelor degree from an accredited university, you are more than qualified to apply for HBS. As far as your chances with only 2 years of experience - that's up for debate. Your qualifications and your odds are two entirely separate matters.

What are your concerns?

Does anyone know how Harvard perceives tests scores that are submitted after the deadline? I want to submit my application by R1 deadline with a 710 score, but I’m retaking two weeks after the R1 deadline. I’ve been scoring 740 on my mocks so I think I can bring it up.

Will it be considered?

While I am not sure on this one, I would have to assume that they would NOT consider it. Deadlines have to be firm or else if word got out that they made an exception for someone, they could be accused of giving some applicants an advantage or special treatment (if they accepted YOUR score two weeks after the deadline, they would have to do that for all 10,000 applicants, and it would be chaos/impossible and deadlines would become meaningless).

I know this is probably not what you want to hear, but if you don't think your materials are ABSOLUTELY as strong as they could be, my advice would be to wait to submit in Round 2 because the competition is fierce and something like a lower-than-average GMAT score could definitely work against you if you are not a superstar candidate in absolutely all other areas.

I hope that helps... best of luck!

there are instances where despite of having great stats HBS has rejected candidates... and most who apply to HBS have great stats, profiles, etc... hold off applying to any school unless you think you have the best version of yourself

Hi there! Re-applicant here 🙋🏽‍♀️ I applied to HBS in R2 of 2021. Took the GMAT online on Dec 25th 2020. Halfway through my test, my proctor’s system crashed. So, they rescheduled me for another test 3 weeks later and I re-took it on Jan 20, 2021. Explained my unfortunate situation to HBS and showed them correspondence proof with GMAC. Sadly, they didn’t approve my request to consider my gmat test score. Fortunately, I had a plan B and took the GRE on the 30th of dec 2020 and chose to apply with it.

Sorry if this isn’t what you want to hear. All the best and I hope this helps!

I think they need a test score for your application to be complete and considered. If you have a score already, and then you improve it after the deadline, I would advocate communicating that to them. I have instructed my clients to always do that even with an unofficial score of course.

That is a probably a different scenario then what daldilaimi shared.

Hey everyone! I’m a final year computer science student and I’m going to apply to the Deferred MBA program of HBS - I have started my GMAT prep (baseline score of 670), and I was wondering if anyone who has successfully applied to the same program can give me some tips for the application itself.

Hi everyone! I have applied for R1 HBS a few days ago. How competitive do you think getting into HBS this year vs last year? I saw a lot of people with brilliant GPA and GMAT score got dinged last year, and I am just curious how the odds are for this year.
