Urgent : offer acceptance

Question

Hi,

I received an offer for an MiM program recently and they have given me a weeks time to accept and make the payments.

The problem is I have also just recently applied to another MiM program which is my first choice.
But the interview is yet to be conducted.

I don't want to lose this opportunity in case I don't land my first choice program.

Can someone advice me on how to deal with this?

ansarose Congratulations on receiving an offer for an MiM program! You can write to the school that gave you an offer requesting for more time stating that you don't want to make a decision until you know all your options. The school may decide not to consider your request but this is worth a shot. The second option is to accept the offer and pay the deposit to secure your spot. In the event that you get accepted into your preferred program, you will lose your deposit fully. The third option is to confidently decline the offer and wait for the result from your preferred program. This obviously carries the risk of not having any admits at the end of the day. I think the most likely choice you have to make is how much you want to have a safe option and willingness to pay for it. I think asking for time is a good idea but not sure how much you will get since you have not even heard of an interview and likely will take weeks or over a month to hear the final admit decision... 😬

So most likely you will have to pay or roll the dice.

We agree with the other two posts. It's a question of the cost of hedging.

In the spirit of helping you make a decision (assuming you have the funds), you should put the deposit down for the first program and just eat the cost if you get into your first program. The fact that you don't have an interview yet, makes us extremely concerned about just foregoing the program to which you are currently accepted. It would be a slightly different proposition if you had an interview in the bag. That's not to say you won't get into your first program, but it's just another potential step in the process that might not go your way.
