It's rare to see an official question that hinges exclusively on idiom usage, though it does happen. The bigger issue is that there are tens of thousands of idioms in English, so memorizing all of them is not likely to be the most effective way to invest your time. More on idioms in  this article .

Now, among the options A & D, i also could not understand why Option D is correct and why not Option A. However, i am also skeptical on the Idiom "Think of X as "
If so, this is what distinguishes Option A & Option D

Hi All,

Hopefully, my POE helps.

The difference between "to be" and "being"-

To be- It is generally used when someone wants something.

example- I want to be home by noon. I just want it to be healthy.

Being- It is generally used as a state. (Although there are other uses as well of Being, but generally you would be able to solve maximum questions by remembering Being as a state)

POE-

Here "Most people may not think of photographic processing to be hazardous", meaning something like people don't wish it to be hazardous.

But for now, let's keep A

Here "processing" is a state. And in this sentence, it clearly states that photographic processing state, i.e the moment when the photographs are getting processed is hazardous.

Although it lacks "as", and thus sound funny, and it would get clear as we go to option D.

But this sentence clear us that usage of "being" is much better in this sentence than "to be".

Option C- I hope no one had an issue with this. This option clearly changes the intended meaning.

Option D- It is similar to B but the Introduction of "as" makes D more clear.

Option E- This option misses people and misses "may", which shows that they could also think about photographic processing as being Hazardous.

Thus D is correct

The idiom issue definitely knocks out A: we can't say "think of X to be Y." It's "think of X as Y" or "think X is Y."

However, I'd say the question needs a rewrite, as the right answer (along with two others) has a meaning problem. We want to look at where the chemicals are used, not where they are  not  used. I may not be in proper ventilation right now, but I am not using the chemicals, so that's not a hazard. We're concerned about cases in which they  are  used without proper ventilation. C and E try to say this, but they are too jumbled to be good answers.
