Que states 5/8th part to the eldest, so remaining 3/8th be divided between 2 brothers. youngest get smallest part. so can safely assume parts as 2/8th and 1/8th of the total.

Now to statements.
1st: y=1/5*m. our assumption proved wrong, but still Y n M both unknown, so clearly insuuficient.

2nd: E=2m. M=1m. so we know, 1m+y=3/8T and 2m=5/8T , SUFFICIENT.

Three brothers shared all the proceeds from the sale of their inherited property. If the eldest brother received exactly 5/8 of the total proceeds, how much money did the youngest brother (who received the smallest share) receive from the sale?

(1) The youngest brother received exactly 1/5 the amount received by the middle brother.
(2) The middle brother received exactly half of the two million dollars received by the eldest brother.

1 alone not sufficient.
2: eldest brother = 2 mln; middle one = 1 mln.
we know that 5x/8 = 2mln => 5x=16mln => x=3.2 mln
we know that first received 2 mln, second 1 mln, and third 200k

sufficient.

Eldest received 5/8 of the total property
=> Other two got 3/8 of the remaining property.

=>a+b=3/8

Statement 1= a=1/5b
=>1/5b+b=3/8.
Thus we can calculate the values.
Please tell me my mistake.

Hi what you did would have been correct if ratios were asked.
But here we are asked the value/Money that the youngest received

Hence it is incorrect
