Emory Goizueta vs Waitlist

Question

I was accepted to Emory's FT program with no scholarship and waitlisted by Georgetown & UNC. My short term goal post MBA is to work in management consulting - distressed CPG companies. I think going for MBB from these schools would be tough, so I am aiming for Deloitte, AT Kearney, Accenture, etc based in DC or NYC (preferably DC). My back up plan is to go back into finance and work in M&A investment banking (CPG industry). Even though Emory is ranked higher than Georgetown, Georgetown is preferably my number one choice because of location in DC. It would be great to get peoples' opinions on whether I should go with Emory or waitlist at Georgetown or UNC.

Honestly, Emory & UNC are in the same tier of schools and since you got into Emory already but not into UNC, I would just stick with Emory, it is still a very very good school. I do believe, that both UNC and Emory are better than Georgetown so I would go with Emory here.

Emory places well in consulting. Atlanta is a huge market and Emory is a top pick for recruiting.

I honestly found the UNC facilities lacking. College town location didn't appeal to me. However, they do place some people in MBB. I imagine it is still tough to do that though.

Georgetown is ranked lower than the others, so I would scratch that option.

I would accept the Emory offer and put a deposit down. Go to their Admitted Students Weekend. Speak to alumni and current students and maybe that will convince you wholeheartedly.

Also, do you have a gameplan to get off the waitlist? I imagine there's not much you can do apart from retake the GMAT. How many times have you taken it? How likely do you think it is to get a higher score? Plus, there's no guarantee that you'll get off the waitlist even after getting a higher score. Too many what-ifs to wait on UNC. Not worth the risk.

Hey cb02 ,

Congratulations on your admits. I would prefer to get off the waitlists and then try to negotiate with the universities. If you get off UNC waitlist, I think you can get something from Emory. But you clearly mentioned that Georgetown is your 1st preference, then I am not sure what the confusion is here. If money isn't a factor and you get off the two waitlists, I think Georgetown wins here.

Just want to bump this.

Would be great if I can get some more opinions. I think I have a good chance of getting into UNC. Visited again, took an extra quantitative course, and got two more recs (one from student/alumni and another from another manager)
