Hi GC Community!
First of all, I have been grateful to GC and its community for their constant support! and hopefully, I would be able to reciprocate the same support for upcoming members.
I am an Indian candidate. I did my engineering in Information technology from a decent college(not from an IIT, NIIT, or Bits) and afterward started a back-end job in a tech-based Digital marketing startup. Soon I started developing an interest in marketing. After working in the startup for 2 years, I had to come back to my family business. Eventually along-side working in my family business, I also established a marketing firm with my life-long friends And Ever since I have been helping small businesses and entrepreneurs with their marketing needs.
So that brings me to what I want from an MBA. Apart from developing a solid business foundation, getting access to a great network, and building relations with smart and accomplished people, I am specifically looking for a few things a program with a solid marketing and entrepreneurship program with a grip in the tech industry. My goal is to get some relevant experience in marketing and eventually get back to my family business and my firm to take them to the next level.
I have been fortunate enough to get admission in 2 great programs
Rice Jones With 25% scholarship
Olin WashU with 60% scholarship
1. Rice
Pros: -
1. Great Entrepreneurship curriculum and resources(ranked in top 10 for entrepreneurship)
2. Location - Houston is bigger and better in most regards.
3. Better brand recognition at least in the south.
4. Higher placement percentage.
5. Probably going to get a STEM recognition soon.
Cons: -
1. Relatively lesser marketing and tech placements.
2. Lower scholarship as well as higher cost of living.
2. Olin
Pros: -
1. Better diversity around 43% of students are internationals.
2. Greater percentage of tech(21%) and marketing placement(27%).
3. more than double scholarship and living expenses are lower too.
4. Better global initiative covering around 4 international cities(but I don't know how relevant it is going to be with Covid-19)
5. Recently got STEM recognition.
Cons: -
1. Has been sliding down the rankings for the past few years. While I know that rankings should only be considered as a starting point, it's probably not the best to ignore the continuous slide in rankings.
2. Location - Apart from a smaller city, Security seems to be a concern too in st-Louis.
Please share your thoughts. Any opinion, any insight will be greatly appreciated! And I hope you all are safe in these uncertain and challenging times.
