Let the side of a cube.

Stat 1: V = 27 => a^3 = 3^3 => a = 3. Sufficient.

Stat 2: Surface area of a cube is 6a^2 = 54 => a^2 = 9 => a = 3. Sufficient..

IMO option D is correct..

OA please...will correct if I missed anything..

What is the length of a side of a certain cube?

(1) The volume of the cube is 27
(2) The surface area of the cube is 54

This question asks us to identify the length of a particular side of a cube- a cube, like a square, has congruent sides. Therefore, the length, width and height of the cube are equal- if we know the measurement of any of these then we can calculate the answer.

Statement (1) tells us that the volume of the cube is 27. Given that the length, width and height must all be equal we can simply take 27 to the cube root and solve for x. Sufficient.

Statement (2) tells us that the surface area of the cube is 54- we can solve for the side lengths using algebra. Given that the surface area of a cube is 2(l)(w) + 2(w)(h) + 2(w)(l) and that all sides must be congruent we can set up the equation
2(x)(x) + 2(x)(x) + 2(x)(x) = 54
(x)(x) + (x)(x) + (x)(x)= 27
3(x)^2=27
x^2=9
x=3
Sufficient.
