B) $$8*10^-^8$$
C) $$8 ÷ 10^5$$
D) $$\frac{.0008}{1000}$$
E) $$88 ÷ 10^6$$

Let's write all the numbers in $$a*10^b$$ form:

A. $$.000008$$=$$8*10^{-6}$$
B. $$8*10^{-8}$$
C. $$8 ÷ 10^5$$=$$8*10^{-5}$$
D. $$\frac{.0008}{1000}$$=$$8*10^{-4}*10^{-3}$$=$$8*10^{-7}$$
E. $$88 ÷ 10^6$$=$$8.8*10^{-5}$$

Descending order of magnitude: E>C>A>D>B

Ans. (C)

Which of the following is the second greatest?

get all of them in form 8*10^{-x}
A) $$.000008=8*10^{-6}$$
B) $$8*10^-^8=8*10^{-8}$$
C) $$8 ÷ 10^5=\frac{8}{10^5}=8*10^{-5}$$
D) $$\frac{.0008}{1000}=8*10^{-7}$$
E) $$88 ÷ 10^6=8.8*10^{-5}$$

So the choices in descending order : E, C, A, D, B

So Ans is C

E) $$88 ÷ 10^6$$

Rewrite each option. I think decimals are easier.

Given $$10^{-x}$$, $$x$$ = the number of digits to the right of the decimal

A) $$0.000008$$

B) $$8*10^{-8}=0.00000008$$

C) $$8 ÷ 10^5=\frac{8*10^0}{10^5}=$$
$$8*10^{(0-5)}=8*10^{-5}=.00008$$

D) $$\frac{.0008}{1000}=\frac{8*10^{-4}}{10^3}=$$
$$8*10^{(-4-3)}=8*10^{-7}=0.0000008$$

E) $$88 ÷ 10^6=(\frac{88*10^0}{10^6})=$$
$$88*10^{(0-6)}=88*10^{-6}=0.000088$$

A) 0.000008
B) 0.00000008
C) 0.00008
D) 0.0000008
E) 0.000088

Compare each decimal place.
E > C > A > D > B

C is second greatest
