Winter break is a much-deserved holiday for all students, and it’s important to enjoy it and recharge. That said, if you’re planning to take the GMAT this spring, it’s a good idea to take advantage of the extra time to plan ahead. Here are a few productive ways to mix business with pleasure over the holidays:
Research the requirements
First, start thinking about where you want to go to business school and work backwards. There are so many tools out there to find the perfect school for you. Pay attention to their average GMAT score and GPA that they accept as this will be the first step to get your foot in the door. You cannot do much about your GPA over a holiday break but you sure can start investing in a GMAT prep course, which will help you get that high score.
Prepare to score big
Standing out is the key to getting attention from the admissions personnel, and a great GMAT score is the perfect way to do so. Here at Kaplan we have a huge variety of prep courses and methods options, so you’ll be sure to find something that fits you. Don’t worry, you don’t have to start your prep course over the holiday break, but signing up and getting locked into a course is a good way to hold yourself accountable down the road.
Consider your network
You will notice that most graduate programs want letters of recommendation. Take this time to reach out or start making connections with those who could potentially write these for you. You don’t want to have done all this hard work for the GMAT and then falter because you do not have a letter of recommendation from someone who really knows you.
Learn from experience
This is also a great time to get your resume in order, as it is the time to start applying for internships. When you apply to business school you want as much experience as possible so a great internship can be the key. Your college’s career center is a great place to reach out and set up a time to meet when school starts back up to go over everything. There are so many people that want to help you and so many resources at your disposal, so be sure to use everything you can.
