From one business school getting busted for fudging data to others looking toward non-U.S. applicants to bolster their class figures, there’s plenty of buzz in MBA news … and stay tuned for the latest in US News and World Report’s MBA rankings on Thursday!
- Numbers don’t lie—unless they belong to the University of Missouri, Kansas City’s Bloch School of Management. The business school reportedly attempted to game the MBA rankings by submitting false data. This blunder will likely hurt their reputation far more than landing a few places lower on a rankings list. Unethical and embarrassing. (Inside Higher Ed)
- As the number of Americans taking the GMAT continues to drop, business schools are looking abroad to keep up their application and enrollment figures. According to the makers of the exam, the Graduate Management Admission Council (GMAC), about 87,000 U.S. citizens took the GMAT from July 2013 to June 2014—a 33% drop since 2009 when over 130,000 Americans took the exam. (Note: the drop looks especially dramatic because many test takers rushed to take the exam before it added the Integrated Reasoning section in June 2012).According to GMAC’s research, approximately two-thirds of the business schools surveyed said foreign applications were up in 2014, but fewer than half reported this was the case for applications from American citizens. - From Apple and Coca-Cola to JPMorgan Chase and General Electric, the number of big companies whose CEOs have an MBA is going up … but which CEOs got their management degree from an elite business school? Does MBA ranking really translate to the business world? (BusinessBecause)
- For the first time in two decades, Dartmouth’s Tuck School of Business has a new dean … and this new dean wants the MBA program to be more than business as usual. At a time when students want more innovation and flexibility, Matthew Slaughter is pushing for changes. (The Wall Street Journal)
