Want to attend a top MBA program abroad? Check out high-ranking European business schools

When it comes to choosing a business school, the majority of people (56.4%) cite ranking and reputation as the most important factors in selecting their MBA program or specialized masters. While you may be familiar with the top MBA programs in America, at schools like Yale, Harvard, Princeton, Stanford, Wharton, and MIT, you shouldn’t discount some of the high-ranking schools that Europe has to offer.

Why choose a European MBA program?

There are many reasons you might opt to study in Europe over the US. Not only would you get the opportunity to experience a whole new culture, but 29 of the top 100 MBA universities are located in Europe, according to The Financial Times Global MBA Ranking 2014 List. Also, with state-of-the-art technology and facilities and great scholarship and funding opportunities, European universities tend to offer a good value for your money—and therefore a good ROI, or return on investment, for your business degree. Worried about a language barrier? Never fear; many of Europe’s top MBA programs are taught in English.

Best European business schools

Here are the top five business schools in Europe according to The Financial Times 2014 European Business School Rankings.

1.  London Business School (LBS)

Based in central London, one of the largest business hubs in the world, LBS is the only non- US business school to be ranked number one for its full-time MBA program. LBS offers a strong academic program that is enhanced by the rich diversity of the city that surrounds it.

2.  Hautes Etudes Commerciales de Paris (HEC Paris)

Founded in 1881, HEC Paris offers both full-time and part-time MBA programs, as well as specialized master’s degrees. You will be in good company with HEC’s distinguished alumni, such as the CEOs of L’Oréal, Michelin, and Best Buy, just to name a few.

3.  Instituto de Empresa (IE Business School)

Located in central Madrid, IE is known as an academic leader in the areas of entrepreneurship and learning technologies. IE also offers a unique “blended” MBA program that allows you to attend class sessions online and interact with classmates from anywhere in the world.

4.  Esade Business School

Based in Barcelona, Esade focuses its program on knowledge management, corporate social responsibility, and the effects of business on the economy and surrounding society. Esade alumni hold a wide range of top positions at both large corporations and in the public and nonprofit sectors.

5.  INSEAD

With campuses in France, Singapore, and Abu Dhabi (not to mention the motto of “The Business School for the World”), INSEAD is one of the largest business schools on the list. It also partners with a number of the top MBA programs in the US and other business schools around the world, giving you a truly global experience.

While each top MBA program in Europe has unique qualities that set it apart, one thing all of these schools have in common is that they look for the best and brightest students. Of course, just as in the US, you’ll need to submit a winning application with a great GMAT score to make yourself stand out.
