Hi there,
I have taken the GMAT yesterday for the first time and got a score of 640. I studied for 6 weeks prior to the actual exam and I am disappointed with my score as I do feel as though another month of study would help me to push my score up. I didn't have this time though as I was attempting an application for the 10th March 2017 at Cambridge.
Now for my question, is a 640 a reasonable score to apply with? Their site indicates an average of about 690. I have solid work experience (4.5 years) and a decent undergrad record (70%). I definitely can stand out in terms of applications (from a diversity point of view) as I a South African Engineer.
Any advice on if I should put forth an application for the 10th March or should I re-take the GMAT and apply again in 5th May?
Maybe look into a retake and a higher score if possible. While your background as a South African does lend you some diversity, your work as an engineer may not - Cambridge has plenty of engineers applying. Beyond that, you may have strong leadership experience, solid achievements, and a good case for an MBA from Cambridge, and these would certainly help. However, the GMAT score is still an important criterion. Would recommend a retake and going for the next round (or, if possible, the next intake).
