I’m ecstatic to announce I’ve been accepted to the January intake, with a HEC Excellence scholarship. I wanted to check if anybody here has experience with deferring their admit?

The best advice I could give to you: reach an alumni (or two), ask for a meet up (or virtual), and dig more about HEC Paris. Make sure your GMAT score is high if you don’t have international work experience. Make a good relationship with the alumni and share your presentation to him/her, ask for advices & show your interest. They might know your future interviewers, so if you’re already create a bond with an alumni--it might help you a lot.

Should I also check which batch they were an alumni of? Should they be recent graduates or older, would it matter?

In my experience, current students/recent graduates are more responsive

They’re also regularly more "up-to-date" with their understanding of things like course offerings and experiential opportunities. Older graduates have more "career impact" to tell you about but tough to catch hold of.

All in all, try for both, but have clear expectations about responsiveness and what information they can give you

Recent graduates would have the most updated information compared to older alumni.
