Thank you for sharing this information,

My opinion would be to submit both scores, this won’t hurt you in the process. If you decide only to submit one, you’ll want to submit the one with the higher quant score. The writing score doesn’t really matter, unless you were to skip in and earn a zero, which it sounds like is not the case.

If you are seeking guidance throughout the application process, do not hesitate to reach out to [email protected].

Best,
Personal MBA Coach

Hey everyone,

I know this is the GMAT club, but I am applying to business school using the GRE and was hoping I could ask a question anyway. I posted this elsewhere but was told it would be helpful to post it on the specific admissions consultant pages. For information I am hoping to apply to schools that have average GRE scores in their class profile of 161/161 to 163/163 (I am applying to Stanford as well but the 165/165 average is really high). I have two GRE scores one is a quant 163 and verbal 164 and the other is quant 162 and verbal 169. I know schools care more about the quant side so the 163 looks better than the 162. But the 169 verbal is a lot higher than 164. So I’m wondering if I should report both scores (that way schools can at least see the 163 and 169 even if they don’t consider them together) or if I should just report one score? If you think I should just report one score, what do you recommend?

Also does my GRE writing score matter? I got a 5 out of 6 on the first GRE (163 quant 164 verbal) but haven’t received my writing score for the newer test (162 quant 169 verbal). If the new test is a 4 or below writing does that matter?

Thank you for all the help. And just so you know even though I took the GRE the GMAT club has been very helpful.

@Sajjad, I think my questions are truncated : questions:
1) How does my profile fit with the candidate pool on my choices listed above?
2a) Any suggestions to add/remove certain programs/schools to my choice list based on my goals?
2b) (Follow up) Any other schools that I should target for greater scholarship chances? I think your school selections are good options for scholarships.
3) Any general suggestions to improve my profile? Think about how you will highlight management experience, either people or projects, in the application. Make sure you know how these schools will specifically facilitate a career in product management.
4) Any school specific tips for my choice schools? Each school is going to need a different approach. Get to know the schools well leveraging their online events. This should provide some insight. Our team is also fantastic bout creating and driving admissions strategies for your individual profile.

Revankumar, are there specific questions you have? Is it possible these got cut off?

Thank you for this information. The M7 is going to be difficult given the lack of management experience your title would suggest. You’ll want to be thoughtful about how you highlight management, either people or projects, as oftentimes engineers aren’t offered these experiences. You’ll want to get to know your target schools well by attending virtual events, and in your application discuss how specifically that school will facilitate your career in product management. If you are able to raise your GMAT score, that can help strengthen your profile, but you’ll still have to be thoughtful about your approach to your goal.

If you’d like to learn more about how our team can help create a personalized application strategy for you and your target schools, please reach out to [email protected]

Do you think my application is strong enough? What can I do in the next few months to strengthen my application?

soltanveis, given that your gpa is from an international university, schools will be less sensitive to it, however they will look to your GMAT to see that you have the academic abilities to succeed in the classroom. If you’re able, you may want to try retaking the GMAT to balance this out. And, where appropriate, address the low gpa in the applications.

soltanveis, If you’d like to work together to create an individualized admissions strategy for your target schools with our team, please reach out to [email protected]

harmansinghbal22, Are you currently working in the US? You’ll want to make sure you’re able to obtain a student visa based on their programs if not. Consulting will be a difficult transition from engineering, especially without a summer internship. Our team could provide tutoring for the GMAT and prepare you for full time programs if you were set on consulting. We also help with part time program strategy - if you’d like to learn more, please reach out to [email protected]

atakshay24, Your GMAT score if strong enough to apply to schools within the 10-30 range, and maybe a T10 or two, however we’d need more information about your work experience and how to leverage that into product management. You may want to consider an EMBA program given your length of experience. Our team would be able to help you choose the best program to fit your experience and goals. If you’re interested, please reach out to [email protected]

atakshay24, In regards to the AWA score - you’ll need to ask the admissions teams at the schools in which you are applying, or address this in an optional essay.

yes I am already in the states and currently working for one of the auto giants. I can not go to full time given Visa constraints but I really do see value in part time MBA to get me where I need to be decades down the road.

Hello UtkarshAnand,

Thank you for your post! The professional accomplishments are good. Since your work experience jumps around a bit, you will want to think carefully about how to develop your narrative in a way that ultimately leads to a career in MBB consulting. Personal MBA Coach can help you successfully articulate this via our comprehensive services.

On the extracurricular front, it will be good to tie your leadership roles in college to the community engagement practices you are currently involved in to show consistency.

Your GMAT score will have a large impact on your chances at your target schools. For schools like Harvard, Stanford, and Wharton, you will definitely want to hit your target of 760+ to maximize your chances of acceptance – particularly due to your lower academic performance in the first two years of undergrad.

Good luck and feel free to reach out if you are looking for customized support throughout the application process: [email protected].

Best,
Personal MBA Coach

Hello!
Thank you for your response. I am sharing my details below:

Nationality - Indian
Undergrad Information B.A in Hospitality and Tourism Studies
GMAT/GRE will attempt in a month
Work experience and leadership 22-year-old with 2 years of full-time work experience (plus 2 years as an apprentice, which I believe is not counted as work experience) in one of India's top hotel chain, I undertook several roles during my time at the property ranging from Guest Relation Executive to Head Concierge. I was also involved in training new employees, the top product up-seller in the hotel and took part various other volunteer activities in the hotel (think: cleanliness drives, elderly care initiatives)
Universities I am looking at MiM programs Essec/ SDA/ ESADE/ Frankfurt and Toulouse for R1 in August.
Post Master goals Looking to mix the management experience I will receive with my previous experience in hospitality to further my career in luxury brand/ brand management.
However, my undergraduate was in a correspondence program. I haven't been exposed to University life and my undergrad score isn't very competitive (60%) considering I was juggling work and studies. I plan on leveraging a good GMAT score and high-quality essays to offset this lack. What are you guys think? Do I have a shot? I am also open to suggestions with regards to choice of universities.
Thanks!

Hi gimmepepperoni,

Thank you for sharing. We sent this info via messages as well but will share it here as well: It sounds like you have some solid work and apprenticeship experience that you will be able to leverage in your applications.

Your GMAT score will be very important here, particularly due to your undergrad performance.

Another way to enhance your candidacy is to get to know your target schools well by attending virtual events, and in your application discuss how that school will specifically facilitate your career in luxury brand/brand management.

As for your target school list, you may also want to consider the HEC Paris MiM. LBS’s MiM is also very popular.

Feel free to send an email to [email protected] to learn how we can help maximize your chances of success. Personal MBA Coach’s founder used to work in global strategy for a hotel company so we are very familiar with the hotel space. Now it will be about crafting the right story to show learnings from the space and how these learnings will help accomplish your goals!

Best,
Personal MBA Coach

Hi AK28,

Thank you for your post. A 750+ GMAT should position you well for INSEAD. Anything less than 730 is likely not going to be enough.

You also may want to consider targeting a larger number of programs. Many students are now applying to 6+ schools as competition increases and acceptance rates fall. School selection is a key part of Personal MBA Coach's services and we would be happy to discuss this with you in more detail in the context of your post-MBA goals.

As for your lack of international experience, I would be more concerned with extracurriculars. Though I would have to learn more about these roles, it sounds like you have some good material to highlight on your applications. Now it comes down to securing a strong GMAT and putting together strong applications.

We work with a lot of folks in finance and send many candidates to INSEAD each year. Do not hesitate to reach out to [email protected] to discuss how we can help set you up for success!

Best,
Personal MBA Coach
