Re: Calling all Applicants: INSEAD September 2020 Intake ! [#permalink]
I am planning to apply to R1 of Jan 2021 intake. While matriculating, I would have completed 12.5 years in the work force. Does it make sense to apply to the full time MBA in spite of the note by the school that candidates over 10 years of work-ex must consider the executive MBA?

Note: I am an Indian IT Male (   ) currently working as a product cum project manager.

Sorry,I do find they stick with the 10 years rule.If you want a one year full time, look at Sloan Fellows for MIT, MSx or LBS. Maybe IMD, IESE or HEC as well for Europe. Is a global EMBA not going to work for you? INSEAD wants the network to be helpful, if you are significantly older that might be in jeopardy.
Cheers

INSEAD provides 40 words to explain "any time gaps (2 months or more) since leaving high school that are unaccounted for in your application".

I had two 3-months breaks since high school. One right after high school since university starts in fall. The other instance after an internship - I traveled for month and used the other two months for researching/doing interviews.

I used the given space to explain the second instance. Perhaps, silly question but do I really need to explain 3 months break after high-school? Thank you in advance.

I don't think you need to explain to explain it. I even never put my high school into resume (it was long ago and in a completely unknown school)

Re: Calling all Applicants: INSEAD September 2020 Intake ! [#permalink]
I have 2 questions:

1) How much weighing do alumni interviews carry? I read that interviews are mainly to reject rather than accept candidates but what happens if the interviewers completely differ in opinion? Would their contradiction make the interview stage almost "irrelevant"?

2) Can someone share the total MBAConnect count admitted and the count for Spanish and French nationals please?

Thanks so much!

Hi Fellow Insead hopefuls,
How is your application going for the R3? This forum seems very quiet considering the deadline is tomorrow.

I want to understand if we can put the duration of any significant interactions with international colleagues in the International Exposure section? Or is it just when you were physically in a different country?
Although I have some international experience, I also spend a significant amount of time working with my colleagues in other countries. So I was wondering if I can mention this as well.

Thanks for your response in advance!

In general, you’ll want to emphasize working directly with colleges in another country (e.g., travels to China or France to lead projects in these countries) over working on a team with international members with whom you don’t interact physically as this generally denotes higher-stakes work. However, the reality may be that you don’t/haven’t travel internationally, and if that’s the case you should work with what you have. It’s certainly better to list international work experience regarding virtual international exposure with international team members/clients/suppliers rather than *leaving the international work experience section blank.* (That might sink you for INSEAD as it is THE global business school). You can certainly make that case that “significant [virtual] interaction with international colleagues” counts as international experience if you position it the right way.

Any general consensus on what video questions might appear? Is there one question that will be always same?

Hi Xin,

INSEAD makes it clear that the recorded video essay questions vary from applicant to applicant and they don't replace the important face-to-face interview with alumni.

One thing you can do to make sure that your performance is optimal is to take advantage of the *practice* interview questions offered on the INSEAD interview portal prior to the formal recording of your answers to the 4 real questions that count. You can do as many practice recordings as you want, which should help you get comfortable with the process prior to recording the real thing.

While video essays are due 48 hours past the deadline for which you are applying, you probably don't want to wait that long in case there are problems with the server.

The INSEAD video essay prompt says that the AdCom is looking to understand "your passions, motivations and who you really are" - so be sure to flush out some 3D data in your responses. Resist the urge to make *every* response about work (even if you *do* work all the time, INSEAD wants to make sure that you are also well-rounded, have hobbies, and are involved in your community).

The best way to prepare for these video application questions is to compile a list of the most frequently asked questions about leadership (e.g., "Tell us about a time you led a team?" or "Tell us about a particular challenge you overcame at work" or "Tell us about a time you had IMPACT" or "How would your colleagues describe your leadership style"), International (e.g., "What international work experiences have you had so far and how do these experiences inform your global lens" - this one is especially important for INSEAD as it is THE international business school), extracurricular ("Tell us about a book you read recently" or "How do you fill your time outside of work" or "How do you give back to your community"), academic ("Briefly summarize your undergraduate studies - how have they informed your professional success?" or "What were your grades like in undergrad?" or "How did you finance your undergrad education?"). They will almost surely ask you a question about INSEAD in particular. In prior years, it's been something along the lines of "Why is INSEAD perfect for you" or "Why are you applying to business school and why INSEAD in particular?" INSEAD is also big on questions that dig into empathy and self-awareness ("Tell us about a time when you had to think in another's perspective and how this influenced your actions" or "What do you do when people come to you for help")

If you find that speaking to an admissions consultant about video essays or interviews may be helpful, feel free to sign up for a free consultation here: https://admissionado.com/free-consultat ... sultation/

Thank you for the detailed answer. On the INSEAD webpages it is said that the whole process takes about 20-30 minutes. Since each video reply has 45seconds for preparation and 1minute for answer it does not really seem to add up. Are some of these questions written responses?

My guess is that INSEAD is giving a conservative estimate of the time commitment assuming it may take you awhile to get set up in their interview portal as well as an assumption of several rounds of practice questions (you could take longer than 30 mins, for instance, if you decide to do a lot of practice questions -- which you can take an unlimited number of times).

From the decision tracker, I don't see anyone receiving admit calls yet for R2. Good luck.

Also, when you get a chance, can you add your INSEAD interview experience in the following link? Thanks.
