Thanks for the info vivek. IMHO all applicants are sent out invitations irrespective of the fact that one is a 1st timer or a reapplicant.

If you're relatively local, you could set up an interview appointment on your own prior to the Oct 10 deadline so I sent in my application on the 6th, but I interviewed by previous appointment, not by invitation. I only live a short flight away from Atlanta and have family in the area so I went up for the weekend to go to the "Super Saturday" event. I set up the interview at the encouragement of one of the Admissions office people who works with military. I did meet some non-mil people that were also interviewing though. I don't think setting up the early interview has any effect on one's chances of admission, it's just a convenient way for them to get some out of the way so they don't have to go through as many once they start processing applications. What might be more helpful to you is that I also applied to Darden with the deadline on the same day, Oct 10, and I haven't heard anything yet good or bad. I'm not worrying about it, I think it just takes them time to work through the application load and decide how they want to schedule things. Might start worrying mid-November.

I attended a recruiting event last Thursday, and was told that the admissions team received twice the number of apps they were expecting in R1, thus they are absolutely slammed right now. Hold tight a bit longer, as I'm sure additional info will be coming soon.
