Hi
gave my interview today , went off well . please excuse me for the msg language
To start the had two people both alums one young (35-40) and one a little elder, both were super friendly and enthusiastic throughout the process, by the end I was joking with them
The questions were mostly normal ones about introduction and about goals, though the method was a little different when it came about things I did , they gave me situations and asked me about how I would act or react to the same , a small estimate question to check my reasoning and logic
Yes I had a few hickups but they were small, all went fairly well
Now the important , advice I would like to share from this experience (this was my first b school interview , so may be you already know it)
1 take time before you answer, dont start as soon as they end , its always better than saying a line then stopping , take as much time as you want before you start ( even a minute) , these people were kind enough to tell me after each question to take my time , if i hurried they would say you can think and if you want you can use this paper . Others may not be so kind . I would suggest wait think and answer not the other way around
2 yes practice but not very much , believe me I dint get a chance to say any answer I had planned , so just keep the relevant points in mind and if possible memorize them so that you can frame in a way the question asks , dont frame any answer from the while preparing.
3 You brain will work at 50% capacity when you sit there , so dont too many things in you mind , concentrate on how to answer the particular question dont think about anything else.
4 take a pencil for the essay so you can erase and dont have to cut or overwrite ( I dint but I saw someone do it , so dats a greats idea I thought)
5 converse a lot in the waiting room , anything personal or professional, this would set up an momentum and you feel way more comfortable plus that alleviate the tension by diverting your mind . You need to keep rehearsing you answers till the last moment , this will only have a bad effect.
6 dont drink too much water while waiting , you know its effects during the interview :P

P.S.
I havent proofread it so dont judge me on the mistakes and if you have any questions please say , I ll be happy to help

Regards
Avinash

Waiting for your debrief dude

Okay guys, so here's my debrief.

I had the interview today in Delhi. Before the interview, as you may know, there was a one-word essay where we had to write about 50-100 words. My word was 'Happy'. This went on pretty smoothly. There were a few people getting accumulated in the waiting room, and we nicely chatted away the whole time. Helped relax some nerves before the interview.

I was called in by an adcom member, and noticed there was one panelist already inside apart from the person who called me. Both were pretty nice people who introduced themselves and shook hands. P1 was the first one who started the interview while P2 was reading my one-word essay (made me slightly conscious :P). She asked about my work and the thing I had written about innovation. She basically wanted me to elaborate on what I had written, and then followed up by asking about my team's function, my roles, a few examples of various aspects of my leadership and teamwork experiences. This went on for a while, and the conversation was relaxed throughout. Then P2 asked about my goals (seemed pretty convinced later), but he said it seems I'm hasty in applying with only 2.5 years of experience. So we had that conversation for a while. Can't really judge how it went, but I gave my best shot at it. Then I was asked about my hobbies outside of work, which after telling led to the question of if/how they have helped me professionally. In the end, it was brought back to the same point that why do I want to join an MBA right now. Was also asked if I am applying to other places. Everything went quite smoothly I suppose, and the interview ended with the typical any questions for us. I asked something about the credit system during exchange programs.

That was mostly it. From what I got to know from others, I was in for about 25 minutes. Everyone was having a relaxed interview with rare (if any) grilling or cross-questioning. I felt that the interview will go wherever YOU take it. All in all, it was a good experience. Had a few mints and biscuits and left the premise. I really can't say how it went, but I felt comfortable throughout. Hopefully, I can convert this into an admit! Let's see... fingers crossed!

Fully grilled. I'm surprised that I still look human and not like a tandoori chicken now.

Interview fully from work experience and application. Think about why MBA hard. And your reasons for living your life the way you have so far.

I think one of my interviewers has the middle name "I'm not convinced".

Some other standard questions. Why should ISB take you? Extracurriculars? Any questions for us?

I walked out thinking one word "Brutal"!

Very different from my experience last time.

Done with the interview on 11th in the Hyderabad campus.

standard 100 word essay, I got "Orange" as topic.

There were three alumni in the panel. They looked exhausted, they must have interviewed many others that day.

First question was about my job, what do I do and whether I like it.

Then questioned that I sound technical, why MBA? What will you do after MBA etc.

How will you estimate the market size for your future product? What will you do when you have funding?

Your target companies(I mentioned Apple :P) do not hire at ISB, what will you do?

Is there anything that you want to tell us? I said No.

Then they gave me a role play question, "One of the team member is slacking in assignments, what will you do?" This went on for 10 minutes with many follow up questions.

Finally, asked me if I have any questions. I said NO.
So the panel asked me solve a puzzle, I tried it but couldn't crack it. They said its okay, we were looking for your approach.

Then good luck, out of the door!

It went well, But I couldn't sense the line of the interview; specifically "What exactly were they looking for".
